On Saturday the kids and I took 45 minute road trip. It was a blast! Well, the snow was blasting us, that is for sure! Other than the cold weather and snow/slush it was a really fun time. Lizzie helped by keeping us on the right road, telling us, “Go that way. We going that way,” and pointing to random points on the map.
They didn’t fall asleep until the way home, and Lizzie sure fought it as hard as she could!
Now that Lizzie is forward facing, her seat is upright and when she sleeps, she slumps all the way forward. It looks so uncomfortable!
While the kids slept I taped some really funny (at least to us) videos. I am tempted to post them but I am afraid that they would be insanely boring for everyone else. What do you think?
Should I post the video?
We packed snacks and drinks. From the looks of this picture Lizzie has picked up on my bad habit.
Everyone thinks that Kansas is flat and a total bore to drive through. That might be true for western Kansas, but in the northeastern part where we live there are Flint Hills, Blackjack hills and lots of trees!
What a great family outing! DH and I love to take long drives…we would just LOVE to take a long drive away from WA and to our new home (when we have one to go to). You’ll have to drive through the Flint Hills in the spring/summer to give us a better view. Hope your having a terrific week!

My little guy always conks out in the car too!! Sorry I’ve been out of the loop lately. We are in FLA and I haven’t had time to comment, etc. I’ve missed it!!
I was familiar with Northwest Kansas because of relatives living there and going to college at Fort Hays. I totally didn’t get the Kansas is flat thing. We just don’t have any trees so it appears flat. At least that was my theory until I visited my husband’s home town in Southwest Kansas.
The first time I visited, I drove down at night because he was working night shift at the sheriff’s office and I didn’t want to meet his family without him. After I was south of Dodge City, I had to call and ask what all the flashing lights were. I was relieved to find out they were irrigation sprinklers and not UFOs sending the aliens to invade! lol
When I got up the next morning and looked outside, I was so surprised. There was nothing!
He took me driving in the country and we could see the water tower from so far away, I thought we were closer to town than we actually were. He also took me out at night and showed me the glow of lights from towns that were 30-45 minutes away- Liberal, Ulysses, Moscow, Hugoton. It was crazy! To me, this is the flat Kansas that others speak of. If a Kansas girl thinks it’s flat, then I wonder what they would think! 🙂
I’ve driven from Denver to KC before and I would drive through Kansas ANY day before I’d drive thru Nebraska. Too bad we have to go thru Nebraska every year when we drive to Minnesota.
awww…i miss manhattan! I bought Brighton a mini neck wrap thing. we don’t use it often but i put it on him when he falls asleep, that way his head doesn’t slump over. I hated that when i turned him forward too. I wish i hadn’t switched him so soon, but i have a very small car and it was just really hard to get him in and out because the middle is the only way he could be backwards and it barely fit there!
