I learned a very important lesson today: rotating your tires every 5,000 miles will save you money. Depending on the brand of tires you purchase, you could get quite a long life out of your tires. For me, I purchase a set that was going to give me about 60,000 miles with a warranty. I bought the tires in 2008 and guess how often I rotated them? ONCE!
Ouch.
Talk about ignorance and forgetfulness.
So those tires that were supposed to last me 60,000 miles lasted me about 40,000. It does not help that I live off a dirt road too.
Why is tire rotation so important?
I guess I thought it wasn’t that big a deal. But your brakes and most of the wear on your tires happens in the rear. Rotating your tires ensures that the wear on them is even. If you don’t rotate your tires even once or get brake services in 2 years like I did, you will notice them wearing thin in certain spots and you will end up purchasing a new set of tires before you expected to.
This is how you learn important lessons in life – by living them!
I really hope that my experience can help save you money too. So go get your tires rotated every other oil change my friends!

Thanks for the reminder. This is one of those basic things that is so easy to put off until it’s too late.

Good information. After I read this post I mentioned to my DH what you said. He replied, “Didn’t you have the tires rotated last time?” Let’s just say that to the best of my knowledge I have never had my tires rotated. Good thing he handles the cars more than me, lol.

That’s one thing my dad always emphasized with me and something I do religiously!
