The Oreck Platinum Pilot vacuum is lightweight, easy to maneuver and easy to use on both hardwood and carpeted floors. There are many features that I will outline below that make this vacuum stand out above the rest.

When I read all the features of the Oreck Pilot Vacuum I knew it would be perfect for my mother, so I gladly reviewed it and gave it to her.

She has the beginnings of arthritis, so she needs a lightweight vacuum that is easy to use and doesn’t cause any extra strain on her back.

The Oreck Pilot was designed for comfort and after she used it for over a week she reported back to me that it was the easiest vacuum she had ever used. I was also thankful for its 10 lbs weight while I was transporting to her house, in and out of the car.

When used on shorter carpet even Lizzie was able to vacuum without much effort! In the video at the bottom you will see me demonstrating on my quite long and shaggy carpet. The Pilot was strong enough to successfully clean even our carpet but it was a bit more difficult to push. My mother’s carpet is shorter though and it doesn’t even feel like you are pushing a vacuum.

This is the  most notable feature and what makes it so easy to use around furniture and corner. The Oreck Pilot has a ball joint and pivot connection that allows it to maneuver 360 degrees in a cinch.  You no longer have to vacuum in straight lines or fight furniture – it fits around things in any direction.

The pile lifting roller brush is also unique to the Oreck Pilot. It sweeps through the dirt and leaves a clean path behind.  In the above photo you can also see all sides are guarded with a non-marring bump card for vacuuming super close to base boards without marking them up.

If you have ever changed an upright vacuum bag before then this will be no different. There is something remarkable about the Oreck vacuum bags, however. These bags trap up to 99.9% of all dust and allergens and seal better than a bagless vacuum, keeping the dust in the bag where it belongs.

The 30 ft. chord wraps around the back of the vacuum.  There is a nice handle that makes carrying it with one hand super easy as well.

Along with the 360 glide, the handle and dual power settings are my favorite features, especially since it is my mom who primarily uses it. The dual power settings allow it to be turned on low which is ideal to clean delicate Persian rugs. The handle was made specifically for people with arthritis. In fact, it has earned Oreck the Arthritis Foundation® Ease-Of-Use Commendation.

There are no attachments for the Pilot to be used in corners or above the floor, but it comes with the Ultimate Handheld Vac which is so much easier to use than a large upright with attachments. It is lighter, easier to carry from room to room and changing attachments is a breeze as well.

The Ultimate Handheld Vac uses small disposable bags that are very easy to change. The opening is the side of the long hose and you simply turn the knob, lift up and out. Then to replace the bag you just lay it flat inside – super easy!

The chord wraps around two legs underneath the vacuum. This keeps it out of sight when being stored, but wrapping the chord up does get tiresome. I prefer retractable chords myself, but that is the only negative thing about it!

On the opposite side of the hose is the Hepa filter. It is as easy to change as the bag, it simply opens and you take the old one out and put the new one in.  What I love is the option to place a small fragrance disk below the filter. My vacuum came with a sample of vanilla fragrance and every time I use the handheld vacuum my room is filled with the lovely smell of vanilla!

It also comes with a clip-on shoulder strap which makes it easier to hold when cleaning draperies, lamps, and transporting it from room to room.

Other notable features of the Oreck Platinum Pilot include:
