I am not ashamed to admit that my children watch television. I keep it off as long as I possibly can – there are days we don’t ever turn it on. But there are times that it just can’t be helped. A movie that keeps them quiet while I nurse the baby or accomplish some dishes is a wonderful relief!
And with kids, there are bound to be movies they ask for again and again. Some I have to put limits on. Seriously, there is only so much of the voices from the new Bob the Builder cartoons I can handle! Then, there are movies that I will gladly let them watch again and again because they just do not annoy me. (And I kinda love them too!) We watch them over and over again for free at yesmovies.
Here are my picks of the Top 5 Kid’s Movies I don’t mind leaving on repeat!
Despicable Me has some of the most fun lines to quote! “Knocked Ooooveeerr!” And “It’s so fluffy I’m gonna die!” The sound track is really fun too. I find myself singing “I’m having a bad bad day,” just for fun around the house. Steve Carell did an amazing job as Gru, I love his accent and his lines.
Don’t make fun of me too much, but I secretly love Tangled! Mandy Moore’s voice has always been a favorite of mine and she really nailed the joy and fear of Rapunzel. The music in this movie is unforgettable and very fun to sing. I love singing “Mother knows best” with Lizzie. And the floating lights scene? It is simply breathtaking, even on the 99th time.
I want to live in the chocolate factory! Kidding. Kind of. I sure would love to meet Johnny Depp though. Again, the music in this movie is fun and the acting was perfection. Johnny Depp has always been one of my favorite actors of all time. Lizzie and David watch this on their iPad and while it plays I boogie to the music. “Listen close, listen hard, to the of Violet Beuregard.” Really, a movie with trained squirrels is a hit in my book!
Right now Lizzie is obsessed with the Wizard of Oz. We live in Kansas, it is a wonderful thing to love! I have loved this movie since I first saw it at 5 years old. I always loved the music and the dancing. I have listened to the songs enough times lately I can sing all the songs with all the verses. There are a few lines that get annoying after awhile, “Where’s Kansas?” “It’s where I live.” (She did not just answer him without answering him, that gets me every time!) but overall I love this movie and dance and sing with Lizzie every time it is on.
I loved the sound track to “Enchanted” so much I bought it! No joke. We clean to “Happy Little Working Song.” Amy Adams has such an upbeat voice and graceful moves, I just get happy when I watch this. And who can’t be happy with Patrick Dempsey as the love interest?
Overall, I think that for us, the music and soundtrack really make the movie. If the soundtrack is barely there or not fun to hear over and over, I won’t enjoy watching it more than once. Give me some fun songs to sing with Lizzie (and a good looking lead character) and I will let her watch it as much as she wants!
Hmmm…How sad. The only two movies I have seen on there are Willy Wonka and The Wizard of Oz. But I definitely agree with you on those, except Betsy was afraid of the Witch & Monkeys in The Wizard of Oz so I would never be able to let her watch it by herself!
The only two I’ve seen are The Wizard of Oz and Tangled. The Wizard of Oz is such a great movie and actually about much more than meets the eye. When I was in CO the community college used to air its classes on their own over the air TV station. One day as I was flipping through the channels I got pulled into a political science class that was discussing The Wizard of Of – fascinating. I don’t know if it’ll let me post the link on here but I’m going to try – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_interpretations_of_The_Wonderful_Wizard_of_Oz
You have GOT to see Enchanted! It is so fun, I love that movie! 🙂
I have heard the political interpretation of the Wizard of Oz. it is really fun to get in discussions about. Thanks for the link, I learned a lot this morning!
I love the Wizard of Oz too…I also love SpongeBob, Olivia, and a bunch of others that are just so fun!
I adore Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (both versions) but Tim Burton is a special addiction of mine. Favorite line of the movie ” Everything in this room is eatable, even *I’m* eatable! But that is called “cannibalism,” my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies.” 🙂
My children are very familiar with other Tim Burton’s Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas, & Corpse Bride. However, 90’s Disney: LIttle Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty & The Beast, will always hold a special place in my heart! Also, classics like Little Monsters, Chipmunk Adventure, Adventures of Pippi Longstocking, & more are my old favorites I adore rewatching with my kids!
I wondered if you weren’t a Tim Burton fan, I had this sneaking suspicion you were LOL!!
I have not seen very many TB films, but have seen Edward Scissorhands 🙂 Alice in Wonderland SCARED me. I couldn’t make it through.
I don’t know Enchanted, and I’ve heard bad things about Tangled (about the mother’s behavior and weapons) so I don’t know that I’ll let Violet watch that for some time. We do watch the others!
That inspires me to write another post about how scary Disney always makes their villains. Cause they really are! Enchanted is perfectly perfect for even very young kids until you get to the very end when the evil step-mother queen turns into a dragon. That part is VERY scary. But you can skip over that so easily.
I haven’t seen Tangled yet but love the others!!!
I LOVE Tangled!! I totally suggest you watch it, if you like fun songs and cute princess movies that is LOL
I must, we like those movies in our house too. The only one our family hasn’t seen is the Wizard of Oz. My little girl loves Tangled and asks for it. A favorite of mine is Enchanted. I love when they sing “That’s how you know” in the park and the guy catches himself swaying along to the music. We also are in the Princess movie phase and have had fun revisiting them as a family in the evening. Another favorite in our house if Beauty and the Beast. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on movies. I also would love to meet Johnny Depp and can’t wait for the next Pirates.
