We are almost at the end of my posts. It makes me slightly sad that my home farm posts are coming to an end so early in the summer. I still have lots of food growing – including honeydew and watermelons!
We had so much fun watching the plants grow from seeds to large plants to delicious vegetables! I am still floored at the bushiness of our tomato plants! To make sure that pests aren’t having a feast on these crops, professionals, who know information like get rid of pigeons method, can be of great help.

We are picking handfuls of tomatoes every single day. I am so glad I planted a variety of tomato plants – from sugary cherry tomatoes to yellow pear tomatoes to heritage ones. Having a variety of them makes them much more fun to eat (and pick). Keeping a garden can take up a lot of time and energy. For efficient garden maintenance, consider professional weed removal services to ensure your garden remains healthy and vibrant.
But if you want to have a nice garden without doing the work, you can hire a landscaping service if you click over here. They can take care of your garden so that your plants grow well and produce lots of fruits and vegetables.
A few things I learned:
- You know how to tell when your corn is ready to be harvested? The raccoons knock the plants down and eat them!
- Just because bugs didn’t eat your plants last year, does not me you don’t have to take preventative steps this year and get pest control Ipswich.
- Many of my veggie plants suffered at the ravenous appetite of some “very hungry caterpillars.”
- It is possible to over-water cucumbers.
- The weather can render useless all your hard work anyways.
These are all wonderful lessons that I will put into practice next year. And here I was thinking the deer was my most difficult pest! Despite these disappointments, we harvested buckets of tomatoes, peppers, and beans. And we were able to harvest about 5 ears of corn before that underhanded raccoon thief got to them. Did you learn any lessons you will be putting into practice next year?

I wish I would have met you at BlogHer! I saw you a few times but never went up and said hello!
I live right outside Kansas City! Whereabouts in Kansas are you?
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
You live near KC? No way!! I live near Topeka. That is really too cool. I wish you would have said hi – I sure was running around crazy at BlogHer but love meeting people 🙂

I am so jealous of all of your produce- we got our garden in late (because we were moving) and it hasn’t grown so well- about 5 tomatoes total (and some cherry tomatoes). Well, there is always next year!
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
Zoe, my tomatoes are ALL that is growing LOL (well, the watermelons have 2 melons growing) My peas never produced any fruit, just lots and lots of leaves and vines. So odd. And my zucchini plants died. Who kills zucchini? Seriously! And my cucumbers died too, I think from heat/over watering? or something…..so odd, so very odd. Yes, there is always next year!

Wow, those tomatoes are awesome! I know what you mean about the catipillars, we had them show up this past week, fortunately they’ve just been eating the carrot greens and not my tomatoes.
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
Yeah, our carrots didn’t grow very well. We didn’t fertilize the carrots too well I don’t think. One thing is for sure, this little experiment made me love home farming!

I love all of your tomato varieties in that picture! My raised bed garden was a learning experience this year! I am planning on looking at some kind of watering system for next year because I could just not keep them beds moist enough! We do have some cucumbers, tomatoes and squash still growing so it wasn’t a total loss!

Wow those tomatoes are gorgeous!!! They must taste amazing. Some day I hope I can grow lots of fruits and veggies. For now I have 2 tomato plants and I am trying really hard not to kill them. 😉
