Let’s face it – kids like tablets just as much as adults do. Maybe more. There are so many free apps for kids that it makes entertaining children on road trips so easy! In fact, when I got the original iPad last year, I downloaded netflix and a few other apps for Lizzie and David. Then, they used it far more than I ever did.
And they broke it. Of course. I let them play with it in their bedroom while I was doing dishes. Then, I tried to plug it in and it wouldn’t charge. I bet it is an easy fix and sending it to Apple will fix it like new, but I haven’t yet. More out of “this-is-such-a-low-priority-I-don’t-have-time-plus-they’ll-break-it-again-anyways” syndrome. So it sits, unused.
Then I got the Samsung Galaxy Tab to review. But that one had the thinnest screen! It sure made for a very light tablet and I loved it. But I put it on my bed to get Lucy and David stepped on it. CRACK! Spiderwebs. All over the screen.
Motorola heard my inner screams. “WHY OH WHY CAN THERE NOT BE A TABLET THAT LASTS?”
I have not put this one “to the test” yet. I love it too much. I am protecting it from my kids as much as possible. But it has Gorilla Glass. Gorilla Glass is more resistant to damage and lighter weight than other types of glass. My XYBoard is definitely light! I am hoping the tough Gorilla Glass can protect my tablet from accidents I cannot control.
It also has a magnesium reinforced body and aluminum housing. No cheap plastic here! Again, protecting from any minor accidents it might encounter. Like my clumsy kids.
The other super important feature is the water resistance! While you cannot take this thing underwater and film at the pool, it does have a water-repellant nano coating that protects it from shorting out. This is really helpful if, say, your angelic child runs over to you while you are looking for a recipe and spills their cup of milk all over you and your tablet. (Hasn’t happened yet, but I know it is just a matter of time).
So here is to hoping this tablet will last through me being a mom to 3 young monsters angels!
Do your kids use your tablet? Or did you buy them their own?
What kid tough features are important to you when buying a tablet?
It’s like tablets are doomed in your house 😛 I hope this one will last for at least a while for you!
My daughter plays with my tablet and my iPad! While, I know that accidents will happen I am happy that Verizon has Gorilla Glass. because of this, my daughter get’s more time with my tablet and stays away from the iPad.
Good Luck with getting the iPad fixed.
