The first time I introduced you to the featured pork farmers on the Kansas Pork Association’s website, I made Honey Pecan Pork Cutlets. It was scrumptious – no wonder the Springer family picked it out as their favorite!
I browsed and read about the other 6 featured farmer families, and came across the Crane Family. They live in Southwest Kansas and raised their 4 children in the rural area. Definitely go read more about them – they are such a neat family!
The Crane’s favorite recipe is the ultimate pork burger! I deviated from the recipe because I didn’t buy enough cheese to go around.
The original recipe calls for the top and bottom layers to each be separate grilled cheese sandwiches. Then you put the pork, bacon, lettuce & tomato in between the two sandwiches. Gooey, greasy, delight!
Ingredients
3/4 lb. ground pork
Salt & Pepper, to taste
2 slices of bacon
6 slices of cheese
4 slices of bread
2 Tbs. butter, softened
Lettuce, Tomato, & Onion
Cooking Directions
Form all of the ground pork into one burger patty. Season with salt and pepper as desired. Cook in a skillet or grill until done, with the internal temperature reaching 160°F. While the burger is cooking, cook the bacon until crisp, and drain well. Spread all four slices of bread with the butter. Place three slices of cheese between each pair of bread slices (butter side our) and cook in a hot skillet until toasted. Place one of the grilled cheese sandwiches on a plate, then the burger patty, then the bacon. Top with lettuce, tomato, onion, or other veggies as desired. Then place the remaining grilled cheese sandwich on top.
