Being a homeowner can be overwhelming. But being a parent of young kids and being a homeowner is ridiculous. I mean, I’m just starting to finally get good at keeping track of my kids’ schedules, now I am trying to figure out how to keep track of home improvement projects, inventory and all those important papers I tend to lose. Plus, as a homeowner I want to do more than just love my home, I want to take care of it so it makes me money and improves in value!
I’ve been living in my home for about seven years. Here are some tips I’ve learned along the way.

How to ROCK at being a home owner
- Get rid of clutter – There is no reason, no reason at all, to keep stuff that you don’t need. Not only is clutter a huge mood-killer, but it creates chaos in your mind and makes it that much more difficult to find important things you need. I’m not saying you need a spotless home (I’m the last to say that), but at least throw/give away junk you don’t need.
- Keep all important documents safe – Home insurance documents, warranties, deeds, mortgages, and bills of sale – you don’t want to ever lose them. In addition to keeping them in a fireproof safe, scan and upload them to HomeZada. HomeZada is a home management software you can access from your computer, tablet and phone. It is completely safe and Free and makes your life so easy! (You can choose to upgrade to $5.95/month or $59 a year for even more options).
- Don’t let small issues become larger ones – That small leak in your ceiling, it could cause mold. That appliance that isn’t working well, it can break down completely. Part of rocking at home ownership is staying on top of projects. The Premium HomeZada membership comes with an automated maintenance schedule as well as alerts and reminders. Take a few minutes to set it up and then you can worry about everything else in your life.
- Add to the value of your home – The worst feeling ever is when you go to sell your home and realize it didn’t really go up in value much at all…but you can prevent that. Take charge of one or two tiny projects a year. Small things like taking care of your yard or updating your kitchen can make a huge different in home worth.
- Take classes – I am the first to admit that DIY is so not easy. But Home Depot and other stores offer DIY classes. And this is the age of learn-anything-on-YouTube-and-Pinterest, use them! Watch videos, read articles, consume information and try your hand at tiny DIY projects.
- Stay informed – Don’t ever stop learning. HomeZada has news and recommendations and tips for homeowners. Read blogs and stay informed about ways to care for your home. There is so much free info out there, don’t let ignorance be your excuse.
If you need fast money during your retirement, you can apply for a regular mortgage or a personal loan, but both options will actually increase your monthly bills. When you borrow from a hard money lender los angeles, you won’t have that stress because you will have prolonged and somewhat flexible length of time to make repayments. Of course, you do have to anticipate and prepare for certain reverse mortgage pros and cons before you sign any agreement. For example, you will receive the benefit of spending the money you receive however you wish, but by the time you do eventually pay the loan back the total you owe will be much higher than what you borrowed due to loan interest rates.
However if you’re looking for an industry-leading information and analytics with expertise and technology you can rely on to fuel your mortgage business, a good services similar to this credit rapid rescore from Certified Credit can greatly help you and can also provide the best ways to help your potential borrowers improve their score.

Clutter is a big problem with my family. That’s what happens when to pack rats marry and breed though. I am trying to purge though so that’s a start.

Getting rid of clutter is a big one. A house feels completely different if it is cluttered.
