My gut turns in knots when my kids are sick. I feel so helpless. Without a magic wand to instantly cure their fever and sore throat, I just hold them and give them medicine, praying it works fast.
Giving them medicine…it’s just like in Mary Poppins. Except not. Because I have the grumpy kids that refuse the medicine but not the supernatural medicine bottle that pours three different flavors at once.
Well, Ms. Poppins, I don’t have your amazing voice, weird bag, or crazy medicine, but I have something else. From a webinar I participated in with PediaCare®, and from the information I learned from this sponsored post I wrote, I have something you don’t.
I have – and they are as close as I will get to a Mary Poppins medicine experience.
Me: “Lizzie, you have a fever. Take this medicine.”
Lizzie: “Does it taste bad?” (nose wrinkled, hand on mouth)
Me: “Nope. And guess what? They melt super fast. They are like the cotton candy of medicines. Try them.”
Success!
You know why they taste so amazing? Because they are made for a child’s taste buds. A child’s? Yes! I learned at the webinar that while we are born with a ton of taste buds as a baby, we lose over half of them over time. Children are actually more sensitive to taste – it isn’t just an act! (That really made me feel better as a mom).
Plus, the fast melting nature makes them fun to eat. (Keep them out of reach!)
And when they spike a fever in the middle of the night, they don’t even have to fully wake up to take the medicine. I hated having to make them sit up to drink the teaspoon of liquid. are super easy to take while laying down – no mess!
For those of you that love videos, here is a fantastic one from Dr. David L. Hill. He discuss a child’s taste buds and picky eaters:

I give my kids Pediacare and I don’t know if I would go so far as to say they like the way it tastes, but they definitely prefer it over other brands!

My kids are amazingly good at taking medicine, but I KNOW the day will come when they’ll balk at it. I’m so glad they’re coming up with more enticing forms of medication. I’m with you, I hate it when my kids are sick because I feel so helpless.
Shauna says
I haven’t seen those melts… so very cool. I actually have a little one who doesn’t like swallowing liquid medicine, so this is perfect
Amber Edwards says
my kids have always been fighters when it comes to taking medicine. This would be so handy to have the next time they get sick!
Stefany says
I love that these melt so easily. Having to give kids liquid when they are not feeling well can be tricky.
Dee Mauser says
While I can still remember some extremely nasty medications I took as a young girl, I can understand why brands don’t make children’s medications taste like candy. They don’t want kids to accidentally overdose because they taste good.
Meagan says
Oh goodness, my son is TERRIBLE at taking medicine! Forcing him to take it never ends well either! We will have to try this! Maybe he’ll like the taste a little better!
Pam says
My kids were such a hassle when they were sick and young. They could see right through most flavored medicines. I’m glad there’s a medicine made with their tastebuds in mind!
Nolie says
I can’t get my son to take anything no matter how sick. I recently found chewable tablets for fevers and it is the only thing he will take.
April says
These melts are genius. I wish we had them when I was a kid. I had the worst tasting medicine. Green ICK or getting shots of antibiotics.
Jennifer says
This is a great idea! Sometimes getting kids to take their medicine is like pulling teeth.
Amy Desrosiers says
My kids love Pediacare! They certainly never complain when it is time to take it.
Dawn says
I wish these had been around when my son was young. He was TERRIBLE about taking his medicine.
Autumn Reo says
Sounds dreamy to me. I do wonder about making medicine taste too good for kids, but I hope using the benefits outweighs the issue.
Courtney says
These are great! My daughter is really good about taking her medicine, but some of the faces she makes just breaks my heart.
Ann BAcciaglia says
My kids hated taking medicine and it was always such a chore. It is much easier now that they are older,

I didn’t know they made melt away meds. I am adding these to my list for the store.
Ronni says
Oy… mine goes full on kicking and screaming when it comes to taking meds. You’d think it was poison. This would so help!
candice says
This has to be so much better than a liquid. Sometime you just get get past the liquid/taste/sensation especially when you are sick. I’ll have to keep my eye out for these.
