This little story is brought to you by VolunteerSpot. It goes from stressful to a very happy ending, all thanks to improved technology. Entire story is my own.
I looked around at the other mom’s at soccer practice. A military wife, brand new to the area. A grandma. And others had to be multiple places at once and weren’t there. One mom brought up to the coach the question about a snacks sign up sheet.
Young, naive college-aged coach smiled and responded, “I think that would be fantastic if you set it up.”
We all looked at each other, hoping someone would start it.
Visions of mass emails and busy parents forgetting to bring snacks and the stress of the coordinator having to remind the parents all flooded my mind. This is my first time ever being a soccer mom, I was really hoping someone else would step up.
Thankfully, a mom did bring juice and snacks to the first game. I asked moms around me if I missed the sign up sheet. I was met with shrugs of “no one sent one around.”
I can’t tell you how thankful I was for VolunterSpot. It became the leader none of us wanted to be.
Free. No sign ups. Email reminders. And it sends the instructions in the welcome email.
I created a free account so I could be in charge of the sign up list. And if you can set up reminders in your smart phone calendar, you can use VolunterSpot. Same exact functionality.
After I created the event, I just copied/pasted the instructions and the link and emailed it to all the other moms.
I kid you not, I sent the email before dinner. By the time I woke up the next day, all the games had snacks volunteers!
Bam. One event set up, one email. No more wading through “reply alls” and trying to fill up empty spots and beg people that didn’t volunteer.
But my favorite part? I don’t have to send the reminder emails/texts. VolunteerSpot does that for me.
I even got a fun little “All the spots are filled” email the next morning! Winning!
Now I can show up to every soccer game without any other stress (besides the normal “we are going to be late because he couldn’t find his shoes” stress).
So moms and dads, if you haven’t made this site your new best friend, you might want to go ahead and check it out now.
Worry about cheering, not the planning!
