*** February 29, 2016 – After reading comments, I am updating this post with more information and to clarify something: This is my personal experience. This is my opinion. Others might have different ones. Other people might have found financial and personal success from this company. After my experience with their customer service and their pitch session, I wrote this post. Take this story for what it is, my opinion after a negative experience.***
I swear this is the age of the “work at home” and “catalog company” jobs. Nothing is a pyramid scheme, all the products will change your life, and if you join you can earn your own money at your own pace.
I don’t begrudge anyone the ability to take part in these companies. I love Thirty-One gifts parties, Mary Kay’s lipsticks are like silk, and my blog partner Rachel and I can help you learn more about the benefits of oils.
But to me, there feels like there is just something off about Life Leadership. I felt it in my gut the first time some friends tried to pitch it to me. And when some other friends used the same exact tactics and I got the same yucky gut feeling, I should have followed my heart.
But nope. I felt sorry for my friends. I signed up just so they wouldn’t have to deal with the embarrassing feelings of a failed outreach.
And through the past two weeks I’ve had a really awful time trying to get my money back and it is this story that I want to share with you so you have more information before you sign up.
First, let me tell you what Life Leadership is.
What does Life Leadership Sell?
Every MLM work at home company has a product you buy that you then sell to others. This one sells a happier, inspired, more intelligent life. I wish I was kidding. They sell inspirational books and CDs. They also have a podcast you can subscribe to called “Rascal Radio.” You can learn about budgeting, how to teach your children about money, fitness, faith, you name it, they have a program for it.
What is a Life Leadership informational class like?
I don’t really like to call it a “party.” Unlike Pampered Chef where you get to make yummy treats and then buy helpful kitchen tools, Life Leadership meetings are hella awkward. And it isn’t the fault of the salespeople! I love my friends and they are just trying to build their business. But there really isn’t a “non awkward” way to get your friends to sign up.
It goes like this: Your friends sit down at a kitchen table with their upline leader who is as slick as a vacuum salesperson. They will talk non-stop for about 15 minutes about how much money the rich people of the world have that you don’t and how this is the answer to all your hard-working dreams. They ask if you have questions, but you don’t know where to start so you just listen.
As you get that feeling of “too good to be true, snake oil much?” they launch into the “it’s not a pyramid” explanation. It’s a vertical line that is actually more horizontal and when you sign up you make money without effort because others are signed up under – I mean next to – you on your team.
Then they continue to remind you that if you don’t sign up now, you will be missing a huge opportunity because there are tons of others signing up that week and you don’t want to lose your spot in the (horizontal!) line.
Life Leadership is Amazon meets Facebook
It’s a community of people, all building you up and helping you improve your life. And they sell books, so they are just like Amazon. Except they only sell their own inspirational books, not To Kill A Mockingbird or books of fiction. But ignore that. They are like Amazon.
How Much Does it Cost to Sign Up?
Here is what I purchased, you can choose only a few of them, but your friends will quickly tell you exactly why every single thing is very necessary:
- Total Access $80
- Track & Save App $25 / month
- Financial Fitness Program $117
- LIFE Training $101
Total Amount Spent: $323
My Nightmare = Trying to Cancel & Get A Refund
I wrote a check for $323. My friend had no idea how to accept credit or debit cards, so she asked me to write a check out to her, personally. So I did.
I thought I’d just write the dang check and cancel it in the morning. This was a Sunday night, so surely I can get this all figured out Monday morning without a headache, right?
Nope.
Life Leadership does not have a customer service call center. You have to email them. Then wait 24 hours for a response. But here’s the catch – if they ship your $200 package before you contact them, you have to forfeit shipping and pay to ship it back to them with tracking because if it happens to “get lost” in the mail you are responsible for making sure you prove you shipped it or they won’t refund your money.
The Process
Sunday, October 4th, I wrote the check out to my friend.
Monday, October 5th, 8:16 a.m. CST I emailed a cancellation request.
Monday, October 5th, 7:37 p.m. CST a customer service representative emails back that I was refunded partially. But the $200 won’t be refunded until that part is shipped, then I ship it back and they receive it.
Monday, October 5th, 8:25 p.m. I respond back with a request to halt shipment and confirm that cancellation and to please send me a full refund.
No Response.
Tuesday, October 13, 2:36 p.m. I email the rep again, requesting an update on my refund.
Tuesday, October 13, 2:58 p.m. she responds with a FedEx tracking number to say it shipped.
Tracking number shows the package information was sent to FedEx on Thursday, October 8th and officially shipped the GA FedEx location October 9th, at 8:02 p.m.
After letting the representative know I was very upset about this lack of communication, she informed me that, “Our shipping is handled by a third party, we do not guarantee your order will not ship even if you request a refund within 72 hours.”
At this point I became irate. I demanded to speak to her supervisor. Finally, on October 14th, a supervisor emailed me back and said:
“My name is [redacted] and I am a Supervisor in Customer Service. I apologize for the frustration you’ve experienced in obtaining a refund for your purchase. I’ve gone ahead and refunded the remaining charges. You should see a refund of $116.69 and $99.93 within 2-3 business days to the same card that was charged. The materials are already on the way to you so they are yours to keep as a goodwill gesture. Your membership is cancelled and you won’t receive any further charges.
Hope this helps.”
They ended up refunding the amount to my friend’s checking account and then I went to my friend and asked her to write a check out to me for the amount they refunded.
What happened to the package?
Good question! I will update this post when I find out. Today is October 19th. FedEx tracking says it was delivered to a town near me, but isn’t in my zip code. So I called FedEx. (I want to find this package just to prove that this isn’t a scam of some sort, and that maybe I over reacted to get my money back. So far it isn’t looking good). In the unfortunate circumstance that you have fallen victim to a scam and are facing difficulty in reclaiming your funds, it’s recommended to engage a lawyer proficient in criminal law to guide you through the necessary legal processes and aid in your pursuit of justice.
FedEx said LifeLeadership used “FedEx Smart Post.” That is when FedEx delivers a package to a local post office and the USPS delivers it to my mailbox.
But my mailbox never received a package nor a paper informing me I have a package.
I called the USPS. They can’t find my package based only on a FedEx tracking number. The sweet lady on the phone suggested I go to my local post office and ask them.
Except the USPS is open 8:15 a.m – 11:30 a.m. and then 12:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. and I work 8:30 – 5:30. So that’s helpful.
UPDATE: I did eventually get the package a week after writing this post. I gave it back to my friend so she can have a free package to give away or do as she wishes with.
My theory: They make the canceling process difficult because they hope that maybe people won’t fight and they’ll make an easy $200.
But I didn’t give up and I finally did get my money back.
(Update: That “theory” above is just that. A theory. Another theory that is just as possible? Their customer service department just needs more people and/or more training so that others don’t have experiences like mine)
WHAT A HEADACHE.
Based on my personal experience, I do not suggest you sign up for them. If you really want to make money from home, sell something else like oils or makeup or cleaning products or bags. Of course, don’t just take my word for it.
Daryl says
So essentially you were a douchebag and got karma for being a douchebag? You probably could have saved everyone a headache by just saying “Nah, its not for me.”
Selling oils or makeup in the MLM model is outdated and overpriced. This info is underpriced and in demand.
Daryl says
WOW, Daryl. Obviously, the program has done a lot for your character and professionalism.
Olena Shad says
Just to want to share our family story. We are usual Canadian middle class family and we’ve been in the business for year and a half, have cancelled and added subscriptions without any difficulty. Had people in our organization that changed their mind and decided not to build business and was able to get full refund even past 30 days mark after the initial sign up. Information delivered through Life Leadership programs helped our family tremendously over the last year to improve our life in many aspects and to get out of financial debt. I am own a young corporate business and did not have much time in a last year to build the Life Leadership business, and I’m still treated with respect and given all support by my mentors I need.
Nicku says
I agree with you. I have been in the business for 3 years and have earned money as well as increased my financial literacy. It is not for everyone, but if you follow the program and are debt free during this COVID -19 you are grateful. You are not depending on the government, but has taken control of your own life. It is sad that the man writing this post could not be honest with his friends. He wasted several people’s time. So he did not experience the product. Yet has the audacity to persuade others to not use it. This is the type of ignorance I hope most of us had the ability to see through. Try it for yourself and you will know it is a great product. I concer with the Shad family.
Cgary says
But he is correct, she knew it wasn’t for her, wasted everyone’s time, wrote a check she intended to cancel. C’mon, have some backbone! If this is really your friend, be honest with them instead of wasting everyone’s time. It’s not for me either. It’s hokey. I had a friend try to get me to come and I told them, it’s not for me. He said, well it’s just some general info on financials. Told him I don;t really have much debt to speak of (just mortgage) and he was cool with it. No frustrations for me, none for him. Don;t waste peoples time if you know from the get-go that it’s not for you.
Debora says
How do you expect to get your money back immediately when the check has barely had time to clear the bank?
JENNIFER says
Good Answer
Wayne says
Thank you! That’s exactly what I was thinking…to me it sounds like Life customer service went above and beyond to give her her money back, even though she was obviously being unethical about the whole thing. I would be ashamed to post this as a “review” of a company I just got done defrauding.
Jason Schultz says
Wayne, there is nothing deceitful about changing one’s mind. (You have never returned a product after having second thoughts?) Shame on you for criticizing somebody that was conflicted about helping a friend. Moreover, Life Leadership members engage in lies and fraud on a daily basis. Shame on you for defending a morally corrupt organization.
Wayne says
You obviously know nothing about the Life organization. I’ve been in the business for 3 years, have cancelled and added subscriptions without any difficulty whatsoever. I’ve never seen anything but the highest integrity and class from it’s leaders. I haven’t spent much time building the business, and definitely haven’t made anybody in my up line any money…and yet, I’m treated the same as if I was working the business like a professional. Just because you don’t understand the business or failed at it yourself is no excuse to run it down.
Terry says
Wayne – nicely summarized and spot on from my own experiences with LIFE as well.
pyramid says
Well maybe they don’t know anything about it but I do!!! It’s a huge SCAM!!!!! And no matter how they try to sum it up… it’s a PYRAMID!!!!!! The only people making money at this scam are the heartless people with no conscience that don’t mind making a living by ripping people off and depending on their friends and family to pay their wages!!!!! NOT a real job!!!!! PYRAMID!!!!
If they are a legit company why don’t they have a real customer service department? Not even sure how she even contacted them. I called everyday for three months straight and nobody EVER answered the phone nor responded to any of my emails. I eventually had to involve the Police!!!
If people want to really be sure they just have to call themselves at 1-855-239-5433 to see how often they answer there none existing phone. If they do actually answer pretend you have an issue then you’ll find out what they’re really about with a pretend issue rather than wait til they screw you up with real theft. There is NO such place as a Head Office because this is NOT A REAL COMPANY….only a bunch of individuals working out of their own homes just as with every other PYRAMID!!!!!!!!
a bunch of crooks!!!!! THIEVES!!!!!
Trina says
I know a lot about life leadership, and they are indeed, a pyramid scheme! My mom literally went broke because she had asshole friends that lied through their teeth to her, and shes gullible!! Life leadership is nothing but bullshit!
Jadea says
She didn’t try to help a friend. She had in the back of her mind to cancel the whole time, so where does the help come it? That story is crappy, because she never went through with the program to give a true picture of it. This helps me in no way to make a decision as to whether I join the program or not.
Annie says
Hi Jadea,
You are right – it wasn’t helping anyone to fake them out, purchase the plan, all with the intention of canceling immediately. My intentions at the beginning of the meeting were pure. Friend said, “I know this will be awkward, but can you please sit and listen as my husband practices his pitch on you?” I told her “sure, I can help you out by listening.” So I thought I was helping by listening. But then towards the end they changed it and it became very clear it wasn’t just a practice. They wanted to sell to me for real.
This is where I admit that I lacked courage and integrity. I was unable to stand up for myself and say “oh no. I thought this was a practice run. I don’t actually want to buy it.” If I would have been honest from the start, I would have avoided ALL this headache. I admit that.
In regards to your comment about how this doesn’t help you make a decision since I never did the program – I apologize for that. I hope I can help you with this bit though: when it comes to “work at home” businesses where your income comes from either signing up people to sell under you or from your friends buying stuff, you have to believe 100% in the product to sell it. So if you are completely in love with these self-help books and CDs, then go ahead and sign up. Just be aware that others will feel the same way I did about the pitch session. It’s a hurdle you will have to overcome to earn money selling these products 🙂 Oh and if you do sign up as a sales person for them – please get them to fix their online customer service program. It’s awful LOL 🙂
Jackie Jameson says
Spot on
Chris O Niel says
The program is bogus. They try to get you to sign up your friends by doing a ‘can I just practice my pitch’ . . . then the ‘leadership’ stuff is all common sense. I have many friends who have joined this program and attended workshops, and they are only poorer for having done it.
Shannon Williams says
She didnt “change” her mind… she never intended on proceeding with the payment… thats called fraud. Sorry.
Annie says
I take responsibility for my fraud. I wish they would take responsibility for their fraudulent behavior. Getting me to come over to their house under the deception of “Hey, I miss you and want a girl’s night, please come over.” Then once I got there it was “oh sorry, hubby wants to practice this, can you stay and listen?” to “Oh now you really should buy this, for real.” When ALL ALONG there was no girl’s night or practice. It was always intended to be a hard sales pitch with intention of getting me to sign up.
Looking back, I wish I had enough guts to just get up and walk out the minute I realized what it really was. I should never have sat through it. That would have prevented this entire fiasco.
What is sad, is that my experience isn’t unique. So many others are asked “can we practice this pitch” by their friends when it isn’t practice. It’s a real hard selling session. That isn’t right either.
Your Mama says
That is not fraud, that is someone who is being tag teamed by people that rely on her not being able to be rude to a “friend”. This is classic manipulation practice and is taught by most MLM. A freind of mine, Ben Alexander, is involved and he talks about it like it is a cult, and if you want to leave, they really do “come for you”. Very disturbing company, just google Life Leadership review and you will see that it’s a scam.
Dream Catcher says
Well it’s deceitful to write a check while knowing your going to cancel the next morning. Also you said your friend was deceitful to you. It’s sounds like your group of friends have a problem of deceitful actions. While Life teaches to be honest and moral. Maybe your friend will improve in their life being around Life’s positive influence. And maybe your afraid they will improve while you don’t and become separated because you stay deceitful. All success requires effort and when people don’t grow and do the effort they blame everything else but their laziness. You sound like a liberal who thinks their right without the full facts.
Hopefully one day you will grow into a responsible adult. All business fail when people don’t perform well. Life just gives people the opportunity to improve their lives but ultimately it’s up to the individual. You should quit blaming everyone and everything else for your short comings. Two of the 5 founders are rated in the top 50 influential leaders on the globe by Inc magazine. So I guess you’ll blame Inc magazine also. Grow up. 🙂
gayroach says
Most Life Members do not get a person to a meeting or gathering deceitfully, for that I am sorry you would exposed to. Life teaches quit the contrary, they teach Leadership skills and that is not the behavior of a leader. Perhaps she was very new at it, maybe you should give her some grace for that, if she is truly a friend. Based on what you admitted you were not being a stand up kind of person either, writing a check for something you fully intended to cancel. Cancellations don’t happen over night, especially when a check is involved, especially when the check is written by someone besides the purchaser. If your friend had already sent the check to the company, it had to go through the normal process, like clearing the bank, before it could be canceled, then the 3rd party company had to be contacted. Not surprising to me at all that the package was mailed before the cancellation went through.
Sharon says
Amen….. it was never given a chance in the first place and if your friends had understood the business at all the pitch as you say would not have been “can I practice on you” 2 People on my team have asked for their money back and got it within 30 days (actually much less than 30 days) Please get your facts correct and actually check it out before ever signing anything. Friends or no friends I will not sign anything until I have done my homework. This company is upstanding and making a huge difference in the lives of many. Yes there are those who do nothing and expect something… NOT REALITY…. Please take a moment and see that your negative is just hurting others opportunity!!!!!!!
Mama D says
It is the most moral company I have ever dealt with. You do not condemn a company that not only returned the money but left you keep what you ordered.
They won’t twist your arm to stay, they don’t need your money…they OFFER to help you change. They pay back to businesses 70% (& rising) of all profits. If you choose not to change your life, it is not their
fault. You trashed them to get attention to your blog. People love a good trash story-true or not. I will make sure to get any info on oils or makeup or whatever else you pitch. This IS your opinion but you decided they were crooked before wtiting that check. You felt pressured…. that was people not following conpany standards… NOT the leaders of that company. The shame is on you.
Amy says
What do you mean that members/leaders for the people’s platform lie everyday?? We have had an opposite experience. We have been treated with complete integrity, sincerity, kindness, help, and have made lasting friendships.
Reg says
Seriously? are you people blind? She posted something that should open your eyes to just another BS scam. She got sucked in like many of us do, felt pressured or sorry for a friend. I once owned a filter queen vaccume cleaner that was worth more than the car I was driving….or the time I bought Collier encyclopedias right at the explosion time of the internet….or my all time favorite of when I was sucked in by a pushy salesman that sold me burial plots for my wife and I when I was barely 25 years old. BS salesmen thrive on people like that. And over the years they have only got better at it. I really pity people that come to my door today. At 50 years old I’ve learned. I literally rip them apart. A poor friend of mine came to me with this scheme and I very quickly put her in her place. She was gullible, and into it with her hands over her eyes. hopefully she catches on before more people are sucked into the vortex.
The lady that posted this did so to show how these scammers work. If you cant see it, your blind. I thank you Mamma Dweeb for your honesty and insight to yet another scam. Some of us see your intentions and appreciate them.
Kathryn says
Whatever people. IF you know nothing about the business, do not slam it. It is NOT a pyramid; it is NOT fraud, it is NOT a vortex…as you claim. It is NOT a get rich quick scheme either. It is a viable business that people do have to work at to be successful. Yes, all of their products are to help you improve your life. You are blaming the business because you are angry with your friend who “deceived” you into coming over to hear the plan. If you are not a person who is willing to work to build your business with the help of others, then no, this is NOT for you. However, there are many, many, many people who love Life Leadership because not only are you helping others with the product, but you actually building a business that you can will to your children. It’s a business that will not only help you get and stay out of debt, it will help you master the field of finances. I know a young lady (in her 20’s)! who is building this business, has worked hard at it and she is making 6 figures. Can you do that selling make-up or Tupperware? I think NOT. PLUS you not only help yourself with your life and finances, you help everyone who is on your team. And yes, you CAN make more than the people above you (not possible with a PYRAMID)….so, think what you may. Unless you have ALL the facts, and ALL knowledge of this business, stop slamming it. Your lack of knowledge and your ignorance about this business are the reasons you are not a candidate for it. No, it’s not for everyone, but it sure is for ME~~~!!!!!!!!! My sister is in it and she is making enough to support her family of 8; soon she will be at the level where she will be getting huge bonuses, a free cruise every year, and so much money, she can help others, as well as spending all of her time with her family!!! Now, that’s worth three years of work, right? She is young and will be able to retire young. She can travel, set up the animal rescue site that she wants and give to all the charities that have her heart. Should your friend have been honest with you about why she wanted you over? Of course. So, don’t slam the business because your friend deceived you.
Mama D says
Very well said Kathryn!
Mike says
Yes Very well said Kathryn. Thanks for some Mature Thoughts
Justin says
You realise this would be a similar thing as making a book called, how i made 300,000$, pricing it at 300k, and then telling others how you too can sell this book and make money. Sure you may find legitimate life advice in there, but it is not anything that our philosophers of old could tell you about leadership, or following modern economists could tell you about making money.
Tony says
Most people don’t have a clue what life is. If they read the books and listen to the CDs and associated with a community they love it. However, I know somebody who didn’t love it, they never read one book, never listen to one CD, and laughed at me when I signed up. I love life Leadership and will be a member of forever. The person that laughed at me was completely ignorant. And by the way their relationships are very poor, and they are definitely broke broke broke. Some people just don’t have the gumption to do anything positive for themselves, and consequently can’t stand those to do. You could not compare like leadership with selling vacuums. Those in the know, well we know, and we’re good
gayroach says
Bless your heart Reg.
Ernie Robinson says
There isn’t an author given for the review but if (s)he had used the Financial Fitness program she’d purchased, (s)he would be writing as a totally out-of-debt winner at the game of life, rather than the whiner (s)he still is. (S)he didn’t participate for a millisecond…how does she condemn a wonderful heartfelt business like Life Leadership? (S)he scammed her friend by joining long enough to quit and write a thousand words of zero worth!
I am a far better leader in my home area, a more confidant man, and paid off $97,200 of consumer debt in 4 1/2 years thanks to keeping my Life package!
Jason Schultz says
Daryl, members of Life Leadership lie and deceive individuals they are trying to recruit. I experienced this first hand. In ethical businesses, people can change their mind and cancel product orders. The fact that Life Leadership makes the process so difficult speaks to their ethics (or lack thereof.)
Will says
Whether you like Life Leadership or not, the information they are offering is awesome. A person that is looking for a change in their finances can find it through Life Leadership. As far as the refund, if you sign a check in your friends name then the expectation is that your friend has already purchased the product for you and you are merely paying them back. The check should have been written to Life Leadership. You can not get mad at Life Leadership for that. Secondly, it is really, really hard to get a refund for something you have not actually received. So the answer Life Leadership gave is spot on. They did you an awesome favor by giving back your money and giving you the product. If anything, this proves that Life is the truth!
Kathryn says
I totally agree with you!
Michael says
“Life is the truth”. Tell us about Orrin
Scott says
I bought the product and asked for a refund, they said it would take some time to process, this was a year ago so I can’t say exactly how long, but I was happy with the %100 quick refund of my money. A real scam doesn’t give your money back, they only say that to get more people to loose their money. This company gave it all back and in a quick and professional manner.
Amy says
Wow keep drinking that life leadership cool aid. A friend tried this on me as well luckily I am not a lemming. Great article!
Kathryn says
Someday, when I have put my work into the Life Leadership business, I will feel sorry for each of you who thinks it’s only a scam. If you only knew. My sister knows the founders and this business is REAL and it is GROWING. Get your facts straight before you talk like you know it all. You obviously know nothing about it. The business is all about helping others. Helping families. Helping in areas of family, friends, finances, faith, fun, etc. How many of you can say you OWN your own business for the huge price of $323?
Life Lies-ership says
You do not own your own business by being a member and growing “your” business lol. They own the business and you are growing their business. Start your own legal entity like a Sole Proprietorship or LLC and then you will own your own business. It’s said that no one is at the top and that Chris and Orrin make money just like we do. Um, c’mon now, of course they are at the top. And that’s okay, nothing wrong with that. But to even say that is just so sketchy because a statement as such is just not true! Who’s names do you think are on the sales tax license, articles of organization, and operating agreement with certain percentages assigned to each owner? Is my name on there? Oh, it’s not? I thought u said I make money the same way you do? It pisses me off seeing people I care about drink this cool-aid. Im not saying it isnt possible to make money or I hope people fail at it. But selling it as owning your own business is soo wrong because that is not true and is so easily exploitable because 99% of people would not know or understand that. I just hope the people I care about dont end up wasting what’s left of their precious years.
Heidi says
Amen! As a small business owner of a sole-proprietorship, I am always amused at all these mom-preneuers who think they own a business. They are working someone else’s business. Anyone in any job can treat themselves as if they are self-employed.
Also, you can get the same content for free at your local library and iTunes. I’ve listened to hundreds of free podcasts (Zig Ziglar) and audiobooks through Overdrive and my local library. It is free, unless you count my tax dollars that fund this. I don’t spend a cent on digital content because there is so much that is free.
I have several friends who keep trying to sell me on Life Leadership. I told them once I’ve exhausted the free content available, I’ll consider paying for it. Granted, all their little books and such are not the same titles as what I get for free, but the content itself is similar, if not the same. You can only recycle the same thoughts and ideas so much before you have books with similar content.
So go ahead, pay $323 for all this. I choose to live frugally and get it all for free.
Heidi says
Also, I want to add that I’ve been successful in sales for 10 years in addition to successfully running my own business. By success I mean I’ve been in the green year after year, and I’ve consistently been in the top 5% sales. So I do understand a thing or two about selling. My response is that “selling” a significantly marked-up product to people, and asking friends and family to attend parties where they have to pay full price so you can get the sale price is not good business or a good way to build relationships. Asking people in your warm market to buy a product, and knowing they will likely buy something nominal, at the very least, because they like you is not really selling.
The statistics show that something in the area of 90% who try direct sales/MLM/network marketing do not make a profit. If my boss hired that many people and 90% didn’t make profit for our company, we’d be SOL. Why is it that it is ok to hire anyone who is willing and interested in joining these companies? A brick and mortar wouldn’t do that – it’s bad business practice. There are just so many holes to MLM, even if a few people are mildly successful. By that I mean they make $100 net profit/yearly.
I have tried direct sales. I prefer actual sales. It is easier and the profit is better. I’ll work smarter for better pay any day. All this is coming from someone who is also self-employed and loving it. So don’t feed me the line about working for the man instead of for myself. I’ve been on both sides of the fence.
Dale says
Heidi, Im glad your so perfect and can find everything you need for free.. You think everyone does that?? Why do people go on Facebook?? The community, thats why.. Why do alot of people go to the gym?? The community… Thats why Life works for SO many people.. They need the community Life has and is growing. The minor cost of the material is irrelavant. If it works for thousands of people around the globe… Its a scam??? Really….??? You know anything about the different personalities?? Why it works for ome and not others… Then we have the…The guy at the top makes the money?? Really again.. Who do you think makes all the money at your job?? Your boss!!! Any business takes alot of time and investment nomatter what it is.. You dont put in the time or investment, you get NOTHING> Its not rocket science. You know what it costs to do a brick and mortor business compared to Life?? Its not even close.. I would recommend this company or material to anyone.. It can change alot if they are willing to do the work needed.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. My sister is drinking their kool-aid. She travels all over to hear them speak and has tried every trick in the book to try to get me into it. My cousin was in it previously and explained their MLM process to me. For them to claim that it isn’t if a straight out lie.

I don’t know how you all say it’s over 300? I spent about 180 to get in and sell. I also love Life Leadership financial fitness. I have paid off over $4000 in debt and still continuing to bring it down. Iv been part of this company for 3 months and I have learned many great tips to help with my finances. And so what I paid for something thousands of people around the world do to help with their finances. If it’s not for you that’s ok but I KNOW IT IS NOT A SCAM.

The value of information applied to a person’s life is minuscule in comparison to the price paid to obtain said information. If a book is worth reading, it is worth buying.
Bruce Terris says
So you never tried to use there system so how you know if it really works or not?
Jason Schultz says
Hi, Bruce. I personally know two individuals that have spent two years investing virtually every waking moment into this so-called “business.” They remain massively in debt. That’s how I know this program doesn’t work. A select few people might get lucky and mislead enough people to bring in an income.
Will says
Have you been with them the whole time? Are they actually doing the business 100% or are they just in the business. The product is meant to build the person, maybe they just use the product. Are they better people for having used the product or are they the same. There are a lot of reasons why they have not succeeded, so to blame it all on the “Business” is short sighted because that is all you are looking for.
Kathryn says
Absolutely. YOU are a wise person, Will.
Steve says
you mean they have been in the program for a long time and they still have debt? wow what a scam!, you know what else is a scam?? I signed up for this gym a year ago and I still haven’t lost weight and I still don’t have a six pack!!!! people don’t go to gyms it’s a scam, didn’t work for me and it won’t work for you!

I sat in on one of these pitches so I can attest to the sick feeling while listening to your friend spout off about how wonderful everything is and if you will only pay some money you too can be happy and inspired and make so much money that you should just basically quit your job right now. Two years later my friend is still trying, but hasn’t quit her own job. The practical point that allowed me to not sign up was: why did this guy (her up line or whatever they call it), drive an hour and a half to tell a total stranger how much better her life would be if she signed up? I mean how wonderful can your lifestyle really be if you drive that far on a weeknight to sell something? That’s not a life I aspire to.
TimeForAchange says
@K “if you will only pay some money you too can be happy and inspired and make so much money that you should just basically quit your job right now”
This is an outright Lie. They say do NOT quit your active income job, and start a passive income business on the side and build it slowly over time.

I know what I was told, thanks. I was there when the conversation went down.

Whatever K. We know what the truth is.

I was just given this pitch and it raised so many red flags for me. I was confused entering it on what it even was (the 8 min video I was sent didn’t really give much of any info, just how great you want your life to be, right?) I agreed to hear the pitch because it was my friend and I thought I’d be a sort of “practice” pitch for her, no plan to buy but as with other friends, I’m willing to be the “customer” for them (in the past, gone in to various restaurants/stores they start working at to help them learn job without it really being a big deal if they make mistakes). I figured a pitch was awkward to give so sure, go ahead and give to me. We weren’t in same town so we had a “skype” call (on a website I’ve never heard of, but maybe its more known for business people. It seemed like something that was able to track the calls to know how long the person spent pitching) and the whole time the other lady (supposedly her sister but I’ve never met so couldn’t help but wonder if it really was or not) talked and she just sat there. Said I wasn’t ready to commit and they offered to mail me more info, sure why not. They said they’d wait a few days to mail so that it “didn’t beat me home” (I was on vacation) which raised more red flags for me. Why would it be a big deal if it was waiting for me? To me, wanted to send more vague info without really giving me the time to look over it (they set up a meeting again at end of call for the next week). Friend tonight said something came up, cannot do skype, but i should still do it with this other person to hear all the great things. I finally said I didn’t feel comfortable signing up and would pass. Still not really sure what this company even is and definitely not giving my money for it. Agree with the sick feeling reported above, It just sounded so sketchy and vague and the whole time I kept thinking along the lines of “too good to be true” because they made it sound like it would be oh so easy-breezy to get on track with finances and have so much money to do all the things you want to do, but never really explained how you would do those things. Kept telling me the great thing about it was that you were a “team” and not alone. And to sign up now before I lost my place in line. Even told me today that they had another person interested so I need to sign up quick before I lose my place in the line and on call last week, said the same thing (they’d contact me first if someone else was interested because they didn’t want me to lose my place. They didn’t sign up quick enough when they first found out and now that they understand it, they wish they had). To me the whole thing was vague and seemed super rushed to sign up. Didn’t want to give me time to explore or think about.

Hey. It is a cult. Members don’t like hearing that and respond by saying you’re a “negative critic”. One of their own videos actually showed a computer animated woman try to convince her lawyer brother to join – it was basically 12 minutes of her beating him down and making him feel guilty until he started beating himself up and agreed to join. They have rehearses responses for “pyramid schemes”. I was approached by a work colleague who I didn’t know very well, and upon politely rejecting she said “ok well it doesn’t seem like you’re looking to better yourself”.
They are a cult. They’ll respond by saying I’m a “negative critic”. That’s the way cult members respond.

Why not just call the bank and put a stop on the check? Why go through all of that anyhow? By the first Tuesday you should have known there was going to be a problem. Yet you waited a week before emailing them again. Stopping payment on checks is what banks do, after all.
However, thank you for your post. My husband just got handed some material from these people and it’s going in the trash tonight. 🙂
Annie says
Can banks stop payment on checks after they are cashed? Because what happened is (and I know I didn’t make this clear in the post, I’m updating it now!) my friend didn’t know how to accept credit/debit cards. So she asked me to pay her personally with a check. Then she cashed the check as soon as the banks opened the next morning.
So when Life Leadership refunded me the money, they actually refunded my friend’s card and I had to get the money from my friend.
Marcus Albright says
Why don’t these Life Leadership people just stop trying to scam people?
ATD says
They don’t scam people. Why are you on telling less about a great company?
C Martin says
I am in Life Leadership myself and cannot get a clear answer from some of the best upline peeps about what and how to gain dibs so I can be able to use my trip miles that I have accumulated in the past year!!
Maybe they want to keep me in more darkness till they can get more $$$ out of me… more I really don’t have… this meeting I was allowed to attend because one of my team members paid for it because right now I can’t even pay for some of my normal living bills let alone $40 per person for a meeting in which I was first misinformed about that both me and my spouse could both go for the same cost and I just found out that it really isn’t true that it is actually supposed to be per each person tickets.
Honestly I have tried to do this for a year and the only thing I really have found beneficial thus far is the cash back Life App. which in itself sometimes is difficult to use because I have to wait for the $$ I want to use on the E wallet to be there to use from my own bank.
I honestly won’t mind staying in as a customer for the cash back but to pay out $40 per person for a meeting and the next big meeting is $150 per person in Wisconsin and doesn’t pay for your hotel or your gas food etc. Don’t even offer you free bottled water… maybe a chance to show off and walk across the stage as a newbie team member and a chance to hear and rub elbows with the best in the business!! Wow so exciting but my poor empty wallet cannot allow me to proceed to this next level to maybe get to where it will be more plausible for me to become ore wealthy!!
I do know that I can also use the Dave Ramsey system for that and it will also help me to manage my income!!
No one in Life Leadership ever mislead me into believing I would somehow get rich quick because they always told me the opposite. The problem I have is what they don’t tell me about or what I have actually been misinformed about such as the actual cost of the meetings or the use of trip credits along with the Dibs credits, BTW it is in the fine print as far as the some of the info about the Dibs and it’s equal use it is just not clear as to how to gain the Dibs!
Mama D says
Just give it back to them. Why would you waste somebody’s money? If the girl at McDonald’s asks you, “Do you want fries with that?” You don’t get butt hurt or angry at her…you just say no or yes.

Dave Corey says
So, I am in Life Leadership as a member and I was skeptical at first. I was. I have 2 degrees and have a very high paying job, yet I was broke, frustrated and on anxiety meds. I knew I needed to change. So we started 2 traditional businesses thinking that would be a better path. Just more stress. Then this. I was lukewarm, my wife was steadfast against it. The materials have helped us out big time, personally, professionally. We have paid off over 80k of debts in the last 18 months. Now I don’t have the fastest growing teams on earth, however it’s steady because we take our time and walk people though the materials that THEY want, not what we pitch them. To the person who insulted you, yikes, I’ve never heard that on a CD, so sorry for that. It’s a business, it takes work, but compared to a traditional al business, that I can speak to, we have invested way less money and have much better profits for said investments and quicker ROI. So I put my name in full as I have nothing to hide from any statements I make. It took us 4 years to get a full ROI and profitability off of a traditional al business we started. He we quit in year 2, sure it would have been a loss. Is LL perfect, heck no, neither is the company I work for and neither is the one you all work for. I know CS delay was tough, and we have to deal with it too. I know they need to hire a few more people, and that will happen. My only question, you said you wrote a check, but then CS said they’d refund a card? I personally do not take checks. I allow people to use a credit, but preferably, debit card, to do their transactions. Anyhow, sorry for the way you all were approached. Blessings to you and yours. DC
Annie says
Dave, thank you for your honest feedback. I really appreciate how thorough you were. Yes, I agree – Life Leadership needs to hire more Customer Service people. That department is so important to any company and it is sadly not working properly – or at least wasn’t working very well for my personal experience.
To answer your question about the check and card thing – (I need to update my post to make this more clear, thank you for pointing it out!)
My friend who I was signing up under didn’t know how to accept payment via credit or debit card. She asked me to pay her personally with a check and then she’d pay with her own checking account. So I wrote the check out to her.
Apparently she paid with her own credit card. Because they paid her my refund. So I had to go back to her and tell her I needed my money back from her. It was super awkward.
Again, this is totally a post about my personal experience. I hope people in Life Leadership (like yourself and others) read my experience & the comments and discover ways to improve the company. 🙂 I tried really hard not to call out the entire company as fraudulent – I just wanted to share how my experience made me feel about them.
Sam Wilson says
I have read several books that I bought through Life Leadership and several audios. My attitude towards people has been greatly improved and my patience for ignorance has greatly increased. I got a job that pays better than any of my previous jobs due to the information that I actually READ and APPLIED. Many programs will charge ten times the amount for an investment in their professional self-directed education that Life charges. As far as disclosing income there is a detailed statement that any representative can provide. The problem is you’d have to read it before throwing it in the trash. The community is wonderful and the information is life changing. I hope anybody reading all of these negative comments is not discouraged as a leap of faith and a surge of motivation in this direction will almost certainly bring some sort of financial or professional success depending on how much one READS and APPLIES.
As far as income from LIFE goes. Salesmanship is an art that has to be learned and studied and many who are first starting out make misinformed mistakes or have not developed the character and principles required to rub people the right way. The information is incredible, but that only goes as far as the individual representing it and how much they have devoured and manifested in their life and business.
TimeForAchange says
Exactly: Anyone can read. Less than 5% will actually apply. Be the minority. Become the person who is so much less stressed about money because of how you handle it. My kid is learning the principles and actually understands them.
Dane says
“I tried really hard not to call out the entire company as fraudulent” she says. Uses words like “scam” “pyramid scheme” “nightmare” in her title.
Jason Schultz says
Hi, Dave. The problem with your comment and the testimonials with others involved in this “business” is that people cannot verify your income. And this problem is compounded by the fact that members of Life Leadership have lied about their income and debt (as I mention in an earlier comment.) Think about it: would you buy a “financial assistance” product from somebody massively in debt? Most people wouldn’t. Therefore, the “sales” people need to create the illusion that they are financially successful.
The second issue relates to time. Per Life Leadership’s video overview, they assert that people “trade money for time.” However, they fail to note that members must spend extraordinary amounts of time recruiting people. That process never ends. Where is the freedom? You are still “trading money for time” if you are constantly trying to persuade people to buy your products, and come to your seminars.
TimeForAchange says
You don’t become debt free over night! It takes years. There is much more to the Financial Fitness program than paying off your bills, sir. So much more. Applying the basic principles gets you started down the right path. Just because the “sales person” isn’t totally out of debt, doesn’t mean they aren’t applying any principles and seeing rewards already. I highly recommend the FF program to anyone who hasn’t read any personal finance books. It is extremely eye opening, and it is focused on benefiting no one except the reader. That’s the great part about it.
TimeForAchange says
Dave has posted an honest and truthful couple of paragraphs about what to expect.
Guys, this isn’t any ‘get rich quick’ or any other scheme. I think a lot has to do with how, and who, approaches you and their personality. You can build your business, sell products, use products, or any combination of the above. I can tell you right now, the Financial Fitness material is very good. You will learn a lot, and even my kid is fully absorbed into the audio CDs when we drive around in the car. He is learning more already than most adults know. Who here is paying more interest on a daily basis than money they put into a savings account? I REST MY CASE.
Jason Schultz says
Life Leadership is a scam. I have personally met two individuals involved in this “business.” After two years in the business, they were both still massively in debt. Their tactics include: lying, misrepresentation and preying on people in desperate situations. Most of the people that get take advantage of are too embarrassed to report their illegal activities to the authorities.
For the few people that don’t engage in deceptive practices, they will contact everybody they know: friends, family members, and co-workers. Once they have exhausted their social circle, they start approaching strangers in coffee shops and gas stations.

Life leadership has destroyed my older sister and her family. She has become brain-washed by these people, it is quite obvious. She can not pay her utility bills, mortgage, ect.. she devotes time every week and on weekends and leaves her husband and children to spend time at conferences away, with no return. They promise her success, but it’s been years of nothing, accept paying into the business. If you try to show her it’s the wrong path, she will come up with trained phrases like, “I’m going to be a millionaire,” or “I don’t want to be like a fish swing downstream, I’m going to swim upstream,” and insult the values of her parents and family members who question this, and help her out every month. This company manipulates its users, and uses major web marketing to prevent negative comments. I hope the business will end, as it has had a damaging impact on my sister and her family. She has not been the same, and we need her back.
TimeForAchange says
She is obviously NOT applying ANY of the principles of the Financial Fitness program. If what you say is true, then she needs guidance in areas outside of LL. I am sorry about your sister, but I seriously doubt life leadership is to blame for your sister’s issues. She needs to re-read the FF book, and listen and APPLY those principles, create a budget, and fix her life.

Hi Jackie! I wrote this post a few months ago and emailed Life Leadership to let them know about this error code on their website. I’m sorry that they still haven’t fixed it. (Mostly, I feel sorry that you are experiencing the same frustration I felt). You will have to email lifesupport@lifeleadership.com directly to cancel your subscription OR you can attempt to ask the person that signed you up to help you cancel. Good luck!
Hfgvv says
Its so funny you write this about a company. When you intended from the beginning not to have anything to do with it in the end your an idiot why would even write out the check just to cancel say fucking no next time okay?
Christina says
News flash chica…. Huge, major, legit corporations make cancelling difficult bc they don’t want you to cancel before trying it out. Outsourced shipping happens around the world by thousands and thousands of major brick and mortar companies every day.
Life leadership has books authored by some people in the business but they ALSO have books in the categories authored by people NOT in the business.
You can say you didn’t like the products because you never even once tried them. Your whole post is based in a LIE, in a story you made up called ‘I have a gut feeling’ and has no basis in reality.
And, if your intention was only to sign up to help out your friends than you did NOTHING to help them out! Your friends make no money off of your signing up. Zero, zippo, zilch. Without actual product sales, no one makes any money, in any legit, legal company. Schemes are ILLEGAL.
Also PYRAMIDS exist in every corporation. Draw out the org structure of any company with a CEO or Pres or Boss or Board and you will find a hierarchy that builds a freaking pyramid/triangle. All that means is that those below are
Limited by those above and can never achieve or surpass those that came before. The reason the issue is brought up in the pitch is because that is fundamentally NOT the case within the business structure of Life Leadership business membership/ownership. Anyone… ANYONE…. Can earn more, achieve a higher rank, surpass and lead, over anyone else, including the founders of the company bc they put themselves at risk and made themselves equals within that structure and went to work building.
What you don’t get is that the whole construction of the company, the materials and the structure is that it exists to create and empower the formation of compensated communities. That grow in size, grow in earnings, grow in knowledge, and grow in leadership…. The structure is set up to natively cultivate leaders. so of COURSE they have material that is created from leaders within the business… They’d be a pretty crappy leadership company if they themselves couldn’t produce any of their own leaders!!!!
Like… Can you get present to how ridiculous your whole whiney little story about the the big bad multi million dollar business, who you NEVER even gave a snowball’s chance in hell, who did everything you asked of them in granting your refund AND cared enough to them let you KEEP the products! Are you freaking kidding me!
You don’t get that hardly anywhere!
A no questions asked, here keep the products anyway as a gift, we’ll take the financial hit for you just because you changed your mind for no valid reason at all?!?!?
And then you go online and trash them????
That is so inauthentic and is a complete lack of integrity. And THIS, THIs crap that you did, this creating a STORY, A FICTIONAL story and posing it as reality is what is freaking wrong with the world!
It causes wars and financial crisis and horrible acts… And you think it’s ok cause you are in your own little bubble of free speech and you have a blog.
Be more responsible with your word and what you create with it in this world!

A-men! Great response. I have just responded and dissected the blog too, in a separate comment.
Some of my research has shown that people write these negative blogs on popular topics to generate traffic to their blog/site for advertising purposes. So people write deceptive posts, lies, and no-fact-based essays with glamorous titles to attract visitors. Some people are just downright internet trolls. Some people love to create drama.
I just like exposing the ‘blog’ for exactly what it is
Dale says
Drop the mic!!!!!!!
TimeForAchange says
This “blog” is pretty sad.
“But to me, there feels like there is just something off about Life Leadership” – Because you are ignorant. This isn’t an insult. When you don’t know about something, your body naturally is uneasy about it. Try walking into a black cave that you have no idea about. Are you comfortable? Now, if someone assured you there was a treasure chest inside, and no creepy spiders or other animals, all you had to do was reach the chest. I bet your inner reactions are totally different.
“But nope. I felt sorry for my friends. I signed up just so they wouldn’t have to deal with the embarrassing feelings of a failed outreach.”
So this was a dishonest decision to you AND your friends.
“Every MLM work at home company has a product you buy that you then sell to others.”
I am pretty sure direct sales is when they order THROUGH the representative. In SOME cases, people want the product now, and will buy from the rep, who then has to restock that item.
“They sell inspirational books and CDs.”
There is quite a difference between inspirational and educational. Have you even read one of their books or listened to an audio CD? I bet if I asked you right now, how much money do you make and how much do you spend, chances are you can’t answer either of those questions. How much do you invest in yourself each year?
So you are criticising and labeling a product you haven’t even used or tried, nor applied??
“As you get that feeling of “too good to be true, snake oil much?” they launch into the “it’s not a pyramid” explanation. It’s a vertical line that is actually more horizontal and when you sign up you make money without effort because others are signed up under – I mean next to – you on your team.”
You should NOT have a “too good to be true” feeling at all. This is something you need to work at … at your own pace, and build your business over time. It is NOT a get rich quick scheme and they explicitly state this.
Here is the kicker: “I THOUGHT I’D JUST WRITE THE DANG CHECK AND CANCEL IT IN THE MORNING”.
REALLY?!?!? The only scammer here is you. You scammed your friends of trust and loyalty.
“My theory: They make the canceling process difficult because they hope that maybe people won’t fight and they’ll make an easy $200.”
OMG do you even hear yourself talk? YOU made this difficult. You assumed you’d just call in after placing a fake order and have it “go away” instantly. This is something perhaps you should have made yourself aware of BEFORE doing your dirty deed. You are slamming a company for an acceptable return policy because of your dishonest actions because you were inconvenienced? You actually COST THEM money in the end!!
“…so that others don’t have experiences like mine”
I am sure most people don’t order things they don’t want. If you had followed the return policy, etc, it would have been fine. You were just impatient and angry your couldn’t “turn off your order” after you had ordered.
I see nothing “Nightmarish” about this entire blog in regards to Life. The only nightmare is anyone having to deal with you.
Linda Arguedas says
Thanks for the story. My friends are trying to snag me into this….I really don’t need the headaches!
Phillip W. Skye says
I will only share my story (as briefly as possible) as I feel that enough has been said, in regard to the “article” and subsequent backlash.
So, when I first saw the Life Leadership opportunity, I was not looking for a business, legitimate home-based taxable deductions, or riches and wealth…
I was simply looking to improve myself, become a better person and become the man that I believed I was meant to become….not the man I saw in the mirror every morning.
When I was first introduced to Life Leadership I was estranged from my wife, separated from my family, depressed (largely because I shamefully regretted being such a king sized knob and not loving my wife & kids as well as I should), drinking almost daily, next to broke all the time, (see again ‘drinking almost daily’) living in my new-found buddy’s garage, and just generally hurting and feeling low.
I didn’t have any aspirations of becoming a millionaire or getting rich; I just wanted to be better.
I understood that my life up to that point, and the person I was, we’re the result of my past choices, which were the result of my thinking, which were the result of the information I had chosen to absorb and apply to date.
In other words, I got it.
Better information = better thinking = better results.
My information, thinking and results led me to be a 37 year old alcoholic roofer, who hurt people, was lousy with money and relationships…..not exactly a success, by any means.
So I made a choice.
I chose to read different books (instead of horror and science fiction), listen to different (I say better) information, and I chose to do my best to apply that information…..
Fast forward 18 months. My wife and I are together, raising our family. We are not perfect, by any means, and we work at our marriage, daily.
Our communication has improved incredibly, thanks to books like “Love and Respect,” “His Needs Her Needs” and “The Five Love Languages.”. We are steadfast in our commitment to one another, and our children.
Our two young boys know that they are loved, because we love and respect and support one another. Our teenage daughter is excelling in academics now, and is applying successful financial principles that we were NEVER taught in school and is thinking long term about her future, and creating goals and plans to achieve them.
…All as a result of the books, cds, seminars and major leadership functions we have made the time and efforts to utilize.
My wife has started her own franchise business outside of being a Network Marketing Professional, is excelling at her present career, and still finds time to be an amazing wife and mother, as well as a sister, a daughter, an aunt and a friend.
Because of the information….and applying it.
We have more wonderful, meaningful relationships than we ever thought or dreamed possible.
We appreciate our lives, and live each day with renewed gratitude for all of our blessings and all of our relationships….
We are not “rich” by any means, although, because we work our business consistently, and put in the investment, (1st ourselves and our brains 2nd into our business, (capital) and 3rd (yet most importantly) Time), we are profitable each and every month. And we work hard to help others become profitable as well, and thankfully we are not alone in that pursuit.
…..will we ever become “wealthy?”
…..I do believe so, because we choose to. Because we work together for a cause. Because we are not afraid of criticism, ignorance or fear.
Because our children need us to show them That we have a better way.
…as for me…..well, I used the information in our leadership development products, as well as our personal communications development, and our sales training and development, and transitioned from roofing construction (anyone know a roofer, and the sort of mindset we/they have? LOL) to a very successful and profitable Sales Position.
I still trade my time for money, as an active income earner, but now I use my mind to earn, and not my back.
…..I am sober (almost 2 full years now), leading my family, have a fulfilling relationship with my mother and father now, as well as my mother in law.
We are almost completely debt free, and saving more than ever, and to me, most importantly, I have found my salvation in Christ Jesus.
…..As of this writing, I am less than two weeks away from my baptism, in which I will publicly declare my conscious choice to allow Jesus to lead me, in every aspect of my life.
….I thank my God, my Heavenly Father each and every day, for Life Leadership, it’s information, and above all, the wonderful, amazing, encouraging and supportive community of people who never judged me; who only accepted me, approved of me, and appreciated me as the flawed creature that I am.
Now, again, this is only my story, and what I and my family have gained from this opportunity….
Others’ results will vary.
This is a business, for sure. One which rewards those who Dream, who work, who uplift, serve others, and commit to becoming their best self.
We have a better way, as Network Marketing Professionals, and I encourage all who read this blog thread to get more information so that you can make a qualified, educated decision for yourself.
If you’re reading this still, I wish you love, peace, and the fulfillment of all your Goals and Dreams.
Namaste!

This should be the post people who are investigating Life Leadership should read. From what Phillip wrote, the information he paid for changed his and his family’s life! Can you put a price on that? He needed to turn his life around, and what he discovered in Life Leadership was the catalyst. I’m sure he will always be grateful that someone had the courage to call him and share a business opportunity with him. What kind of business opportunity does that in someone’s life? Scam or no scam, a lot of you commenting here sure need it.

Annie, thanks for the information.
It was just today — July 12, 2016 — that I was contacted by an acquaintance who wants me to attend a Life Leadership meeting this Thursday. As he talked to me about it, I got a negative feeling in the pit of my stomach — which was only made worse when he decided to hook me up on a three-way call with his friend who was bringing this “wonderful opportunity” to my area. It wasn’t too long before I realized that this was yet another “multi-level-marketing” scheme. Initially, their reluctance to describe exactly what it was set off my BS radar and just deepened my suspicions. For the next 10 minutes, they continued to talk about it — describing it only in the vaguest of terms saying, “You’ll get a lot more information when you attend the meeting.”
Needless to say, I’ve decided not to attend the meeting. I have no interest in trying to convince others (who are in debt) to buy expensive books and other materials even as I entice them with the idea of generating passive riches — and then having them try and convince others to do the same. I have better things to do with my time and I’m sure they do too.
I’m debt free and have been for 25 years. If you’re in debt and want to know what the secrets to becoming debt free are, here is the list I used to get that way:
Spend less than you earn.
Eat out as little as possible.
Save as much as you comfortably can.
Whenever possible — pay with cash not credit.
Shop around for the best deal on whatever you buy.
Buy lightly used cars (let the other sucker pay the depreciation).
My house is paid for, my cars are paid for, and I have zero consumer debt. I buy only the things I need or can use and I always shop with a list to avoid impulse buying at the grocery store.
I will be forever grateful to my mother — a child of the Depression — who handed down these “life-lessons” to me. Unlike my government, I have learned to live comfortably within my means. You can learn to do it too.

These poor souls that got sucked into the life leadership scam and defend it like they are actually making any money from scamming their friends. I am stunned they call YOU the fraud lol.
There are hundreds of free resources available for those who truly want help with their finances. How can a company who claims to to bring you financial freedom honestly push you into paying $300/month or more for worthless material you can find for free or very cheap. Search amazon for a book on budgeting and you’ll find one for a penny plus $3 shipping.
Here is their 2013 Income Disclosure Statement:

69,000 out of 71,000 members are losing well over $300/month from this scam. (Column S)
And those are THEIR numbers. Imagine what the actual numbers are.. :/ YIKES

The really telling part about that spreadsheet is that only 0.07% made real money. Not even a tenth of a percent of members!! Of course that is the founders of this crap. The numbers are super in line with almost all MLM’s.
To all the math challenged folks looking at this you have 99.93% of making chicken feed (Life’s own reporting numbers!)
These folks are giving financial advice?? Yikes.

My experience with Life Leadership is that I have NEVER been a part of anything that was so difficult to get out of in my life!!! I didn’t get into it for the business and never made any major purchases. I got in for the consumer discounts (which is part of their selling points) and for a few of their books. After a while, I realized that most of the stores that they had discounts through were not ones that i used or not in my area, so I decided to cancel. Well, I misplaced my membership info and what did I find out? You can’t reset your password unless you have the code on the original paperwork. I also found that the website does not provide any contact info unless you are able to get in. So after trying to get contact info, without success, I contacted the credit card company that I signed up with to put a stop on the monthly payment thinking, at the very least, someone would call me and ask what was going on and I would cancel then. (Keep in mind, I don’t owe them anything, they are just continuing to charge my account). Shortly after putting on the block, I received a call from the credit card company who told me that Life Leadership has a special clause and was a company whose charge COULD NOT BE BLOCKED! The card company even offered and attempted to use their channels to contact Life Leadership and they could not get any info either. In the end I had to shut my credit card down completely by closing the account. All over this one subscription. Why would this company, who is supposed to be on the up and up make discontinuing their service so difficult?
I’m not saying they haven’t done some good things for some people, all I’m saying is that if you choose to get involved with them, you better make sure you REALLY want to get involved with them because by the time they let you out, you will have lost more than you wanted to.

A few years back I was contacted by an “acquaintance” and asked to sit in on a meeting. Even though he was from my church and his son went to school with my son, it didn’t feel right so I didn’t take him up on the invitation.
Now here is the sad part. This “family strong in faith” made their teenaged son sign up as their down line. At first he was trying to get his friends, including my son, to join the program, but eventually he would spend too much time defending the company (i.e. It’s not a pyramid, it’s a horizontal line) so he stopped pressuring his friends. Throughout high school he was forced to attend monthly Saturday meetings and summer conferences, which he had to pay for with his own money. In fact, there were times he would not attend parties with his friends, or leave early because he had to attend a meeting. He didn’t read anything on his free time except the books they provided and listened to their CDs when driving in the car. Once he got to college, things changed. He told my son he wanted out but was afraid to tell his parents because he knew they would be furious. My son has told me that the last he heard his friend was working on talking to his parents about dropping out of the program. He wants to tell them that he’s lost too much money and he doesn’t have time for it now that he’s going to college.
What exactly are those 8 Fs again?

Someone I work with began dropping hints to me about the LIFE Leadership Financial Fitness program recently. I’m interested in stuff like this and since I had never heard of Financial Fitness, I Googled the program for more information. After reading a little about it I decided to buy the book and the CDs — but I bought mine on ebay for $25 instead of the $100+ retail price. I have to say that after reading the book and listening to the CDs, I think I overpaid even at $25. Whether it’s a pyramid scheme or not, I just didn’t think the info was all that great. I didn’t think the speakers were very good and they don’t really lay out a clear plan. They just speak in generalities — make a budget, live within your means, don’t borrow money, etc. It’s not that the advice is bad, it’s just not anything new and it’s not even presented all that well, in my opinion. I’ve also taken Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University course and between the two, I would recommend Dave Ramsey’s course (although I still think you can get all the same information by reading one of his books from the library rather than paying $100+ for his course). Dave at least has a clear-cut plan to follow that he lays out very carefully, in easy-to-follow steps.
As for your friend who took advantage of your relationship to try to sell you something, I just think that’s really tacky. What kind of person does that?

I’m so glad I found this. Our “friends” tried signing us up last night. While my husband and I felt really creeped out by the cult like attitude and sales pitches we got, also a ton of people showed up to “recruit” us.
It was very strange and we left with an awful feeling. I see more “cult” like following in the comments you received. Geez, really is nuts and so glad we are not getting involved. I feel dirty having heard the sales pitch.
Michael says
Hey. Can you provide us an update on how your friend is going?
Well done for getting out when you did. They are a cult. They automatically shut down people who criticise them by calling them “negative critics”. They are very vague about what they are presumably until you’ve spent a lot of time and money in meetings. A colleague of mine tried all her tactics on me (making me feel guilty about how I lead my life, etc) to join up with them continuously spoke about how her life is wonderful and tremendous on it.
They spend a lot of effort in blog posts and videos outlining how they’re *not* a cult, *not* a scam and *not* a pyramid scheme (I actually didn’t even mention pyramid scheme to my colleague and she already started with the prepared responses about how they’re not one). This is a cult. That’s it. Well done for getting out while you could.
Michael says
Sorry I forgot to add. They hold their founder “Orrin Woodward” in very high regard. Their seminars involve quoting him and his books. If that’s not the nail in the coffin for screaming cult, I don’t know what is.

THANK YOU FOR THIS POST! It was brave and needed to be written:
My husband and I received the same unsolicited pitch the other day… it was a nightmare. A friend in our church kept asking to stop by to discuss an opportunity with us. We didn’t want to seem rude so we arranged a time for him to stop by and chat. He launched into this absurd monologue, peddling things like “hope” and “skills” and “community”. I asked a ton of questions he couldn’t answer. He said it was too difficult to explain in one meeting and “if he told us everything at once we would be too overwhelmed and our heads would explode”. Seriously? Try me.
I told him I would do some internet research to see how the company looked and he warned me that the internet doesn’t have a good filter. I said, “that’s what’s great about the internet”. Don’t waste your time or your money on this nonsense (unless you have loads of time and money to waste). Get a real job, where you can make a real income without hustling your friends, neighbors and congregation for money. If you need leadership development go to TedTalks.com, or download some free podcasts, or visit a library, or google “leadership development training”… the possibilities are endless, free and probably won’t ruin your life.

I love finding new blogs to bookmark, however your’s will not be one of them. For your husband to add to the comments as though he has tried out this program is creepy and weird as well. For this post to have even been written as a blog post is just selfish.
I DO know people involved with LIFE leadership, am I a part of it? No I am not. Why? I didn’t feel it was right for me. End of story. Are the people I know that are involved doing well? Yup. Do I know people that have been involved and are not doing well? Yup. What is the difference? I’m pretty sure it is the application of what they are learning. That really does apply to EVERYTHING in our lives though.
My husband has listened to both the Financial Fitness and then Dave Ramsey’s radio blog, and he personally has found Dave Ramesy to be easier to understand and his book much more clear of a plan. We agree, financial fitness programs/books are not a one size fits all. Just as work out programs are not a one size fits all. For some people to the Life Financial program and Dave Ramsey might not be for them, but they find people like what’s his name…Tai Lopez helpful. You had a few week refund, and got some books? That you gave to your friend (that was at least honest of you). I had to deal with Overstock.com for months to get a refund on a crib that they claim was shipped, but never received and then lost some how in shipping-a CRIB GOT LOST IN SHIPPING. Yet, I have friends that love overstock. Due to my own personal experience with them, after ordering and never receiving the crib, but they did refund my money quickly after I requested (I thought that was strange since they didn’t have the crib back and I never received it). I won’t say they are a horrible company, they didn’t keep my money. Was it a headache? Absolutely. If I wrote a blog post about it, I certainly wouldn’t title it to seem as though I know without doubt the business is a joke. Friends of mine have had no problems getting what they ordered.
I know it’s been said over and over, but the thing is, when writing a review of a company, you should actually give the company a real honest opportunity to either prove or disprove themselves. I don’t think the wait time for a refund was bad at all based on your dates.
I don’t like to wish bad things on people, so I hope my following comment doesn’t sound negative. I hope after writing this, and reading some of the comments, that you felt embarrassed, because I think it would have helped you to grow and improve your thinking and respect for others and the truth. We shouldn’t remain the same forever, if we do, we are not growing. Think about it.
God Bless.

The business of direct selling isn’t for everyone. Some people are ment to do it, and others are called to do other things. The product is the same way…personally it works great for me and my family. We really enjoy what we have learned and even have rid ourselves of some of our debt. Also having the opportunity to work with some very successful people has been a real thrill for me personally. Also I still hang out with all my friends who didnt decide to join the business. There is no awkwardness . Every time some one complains about being suxked into a direct selling company it is usually because the recruiter is amateur. Or that prospect is cynical to being with!! Didn’t matter who approached them, they see everything as a scam!
Honestly the best way to decide if you are going to become a member or customer of LIFE is to go through some of programs and cds.

Thank you for this Annie , I also have a friend who has been putting an uneasy pressure on me to attend a “meeting” and the more I read the more I am convinced my answer will have to be a blunt no . The more research I do on this company the more I want nothing to do with it . My friend has been after me for months to attend a meeting and I’ve made it clear I’m not interested but this is not deterring her efforts . As you read the information on the Web and watch the YouTube videos you begin to see a pattern , whether you call it a cult or a scam the truth is its a pressure sales pitch to buy self help material that’s readily available much cheaper and even free . Sadly once you are involved you are made to believe that the road is paved in gold for those who recruit others . I will not take part in this or the million other “opportunities” like it, and will be advising my friend to cut her losses and get out also . Good for you for not falling for what so many others have .

Sounds like you had an experience we could have with any sales company. We have all had those types of experiences. Big deal it happens. However, if you would of gave the materials a chance and listen to the principles being taught you would of learned how to talk to your friend and you would of been able to confidently have that crucial conversation with her and told her it wasn’t for you and sparred everyone the headache. It sounds like right from the start you had negative thoughts about it so of course you will have a negative outcome. That is inevitable. You see things the way you want to and you get what you expect. I’m sorry but this business isn’t all about the money to some. I got involved to improve myself, my marriage, my relationship with my children and how to get along with people and improve my finances. Something whether anyone wants to admit it or not each one of us need help in all those areas. Ive been to lots of counseling to help me in these areas and none of them has helped me nowhere near what Ive learned through the materials with LIFE. I also spend ALOT of money on those session and the materials I got was surely not as expensive as all those sessions. Now I have improved myself, marriage, family, relationships and finances. My kids have learned things I never learned at their age and its so much better for them to be a good influence on others and i feel confident they are better prepared for their life. We owe it to this program. That is success to me. I’m happier. I’m truly thankful. Just like any business you need a way to make money. Why do people go to work everyday?? They need money. How is this any different than going to any store to buy what you need? Do you call them a scam? No. They are taking your money aren’t they? But will that TV your buying going to improve your marriage? Your family? Your finances? Your character? You are condemning people who are trying to improve your life and life of others by giving them an opportunity to better themselves. Something I’m sorry but that’s what our world needs. Do you truly know how good it feels to help others? The deep gratitude you get when you see a couple on the verge of divorce and you see the hurt in the children eyes you give them hope through the marriage and parenting information LIFE LEADERSHIP has and you watch such an amazing transformation with the whole family. Where the husband and wife love each other than ever before the kids are gleaming with happiness. I’ve seen it first hand with my own eyes. So you can sit and criticize all you want but you never will know the true aspect of greatness with a closed negative mind. That is exactly what is wrong with our society and the more we change our perspective to a positive, humble, compassionate view on others we would be in a better place.

So sad. I was looking for a review of the program/product so I could make an educated decision and you have nothing to say at all because you didnt even try it….you didnt even plan to. And then you just complain because YOUR scam on your friend was not as easy as you thought.

See my post below. Let me tell you, a great many of their ideas are ripped off, repackaged and the worse part is they often do not credit the source. These guys hate guys like me who are avid readers and who can call them on their repackaged products. For example the power of automated thinking is from Think and Grow Rich. Their message around the financial matrix is from Robert Kiyosaki. If you think a bunch off book report presentations-like the ones you used to do for school-is worth 300+ and a monthly fee (total garbage fee) is worth it, then have a ball. As for me, I’ll keep my hundreds and get the meat of their ideas from the originators of them. Peace.
Snug Oddie says
Hi, Just my 2 cents. The whole system literally has its roots in Amway-arguably the most successful pyramid scam in history with Billions in profits (yeah, BILLION with a capital B); all brought to you by the middle class. Anyway, I gave Life Leadership a fair shake. I listened to the audios given to me by a well meaning, thoroughly brainwashed (yeah, I said it) team member who had dreams of retiring rich. What I found in the material was repackaged ideas from better known books such as the Bible, Think and Grow Rich, Rich Dad Poor Dad, David Ramsey (who got a lot of HIS material from Larry Burkett-a true financial genius), and many others. As an avid reader, EVERY one of the ideas could be easily traced to another book. Their scheme is good, I don’t think it’s illegal because they are actually selling you things (as saturated as it is), but you will do much better saving the hundreds and just spending 5 dollars from a used book store to get the classics mentioned above. By the way, when I went to the meeting, they were so aggressive and in-your-face that they seemed personally offended when I told them I don’t want any of their Koolaid. All in all, it was a royal waste of my time. There’s a million ways to get rich; this aint one of them, unless your names are Chris Brady and O. Woodward and at the .00001% of top. Good luck, you’ll need it.

Just an observation in the form of a question: Why did you “just write the dang check” when you were planning on “cancel[ing] it in the morning”? Why not just tell your friend, “NO!”? Did you ever listen to any of the information? Did you ever attend an event? Did you ever associate with the community of people already involved?
I totally understand your frustration about dealing with the “customer service” department of the LIFE company, but I would have to say that you dug yourself into your own mess by not being honest with your friend.
Chris says
A lot of the negatives here are because people aren’t doing the Life Leadership business quite right. Life Leadership is a lot about leadership by example and working as a team not an individual. I have to say that I don’t get too much into this, but, I do know a lot about it. My wife has been into these people since before they unveiled the Life Leadership product line. I listen to the CDs and read the books at times. The CDs have had a PROFOUND affect on our children and their attitude toward hard work.
The business model isn’t complex and their methodologies aren’t hidden. In fact about 50-75% of the meetings and CDs are all about how to help other people leverage the product line. First, you were buying into starting your own business at that point and not just buying some product. Second, your friend should have asked some pointed questions to gauge your actual interest after they tell you about how the business works. One of the things that can be done and often is done is that the person presenting the business would just give you some of the materials, some CDs for you to listen to. Why? because the CDs are as much about training you how to build the business as they are about training you Leadership. The goal in this business is actually as you said in parts of your blog, to help people.
If your friend gave you some CDs and you listened to them, then you could have know more about what the business is about. Maybe you would have been interested in just buying some monthly CDs and listening to them for self help, and/or buying the book of the month club. This information isn’t ONLY for building the business, but, it is for helping you be a better person when you do ANY business, including what you may be doing now. After seeing how the materials helped you, maybe you’d become interested in starting your own business and helping other people out.
Your friend probably made some mistakes in their presentation. They probably were using you for a dry run/practice and it may have been the first or second time that they have done it. It sounds like they were really excited about the business and really thought you’d be interested and were pushing harder than they should because of that. They should probably contacted their upline when they weren’t sure how to do the sale of the subscriptions (more evidence that they were really new at this). That is part of how the business model works, you are supposed to call your upline and they their upline because it is a TEAM effort.
The compensation plan isn’t a secret either. It isn’t a pyramid scheme, which has to do with everyone above you always getting a piece of your pie. For a while you work with your upline with them helping you build your first team, which they get a part of the pie because heck, they were helping you. Then you start to build your own second team, which your upline will also help you with. Your second and third teams are where you start getting paid more and if you work hard enough, you could have a bigger group of people under you than your “upline” and you can be making more money because you are HELPING more people have a better LIFE.
Melissa says
That is a pyramid/ponzi scheme whether you are “helping” or not
Melissa says
Seems to me this is a ponzi scheme that will eventually fail. I feel bad for my friend involved. I have listened to a few of the cds and agree it is wonderful information. However, from what I understand is that you make money from others signing up and buying subscriptions. The ones making the real money are the ones making the cds and writing the books. Otherwise the general people make money by selling someone elses product to their friends and family. Unfortunately this is bound to collapse at some point if nee people stop signing up. With all respect, this is a classic symptom of a ponzi scheme.

I will be using the Personal Development parts of this program to improve myself, Which I need greatly I think!!!??? I also do know that they are losing people Right and Left. All of the comments here seems to aim toward “it’s a great company” or “it’s a scam!”. I have another type of comment…
I joined Life Leadership in 2010, at the time it was called TEAM and they were associated with Mona-Vie. My wife and I just loved Mona-Vie products and tried to build our business without any success, and then on November 2011, Life Leadership was officially born. Apparently it was the dream of the founders, Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady to create a MLM company based on personal development and leadership principles.
The people were friendly and we had a good time for a couple of years. It’s always good to be among positive people. But there was some annoying things to me… the worst to me was the “cross lining rule” forbidding you to speak to other teams members, so even if you have a great “human” connection with someone, you could not have any contact with her or him. There was also their claim that this is not like a regular job “this is your business”… I’m sorry, but this is just like another job, you get paid by the company compensation plan, you have to sell what they decide you’ll sell, you have to follow their rules, they even suggest how you should dress, and if you dare not to have a suit with your tie, your upline and other members will jump on the occasion to remind it to you ! I was felling more controlled with LIFE than I was at my jobs.
Yes, you have the financial pros (taxes, etc.), and you decide the amount of work you want to invest in your business, but if you don’t work really hard, you get no money… even if you work day and night at this, it do not guarantee your financial success, you must have the skills and contact the good prospects. Also, too many of those “skills” are deceitful tactics and we’ve lost a bunch of friends and future friends into this… but they brainwash you with the idea that anyone who won’t join LIFE is doomed to live a miserable life and the first to try to steal your dreams are family and friends.
Last thing I can think of is the “cult like” mentality… You should stop listen to music or radio, and listen to a minimum of 3 business CDs daily. Also, every book you buy should come from LIFE. When you spend some time with family or other “outer-Life” people, it feels like a waste of time. Watching a good movie after work is shameful, you should be out there building your business until late at night !
I had a great friendship with a guy in my upline, or so I thought so… Since I quit “the business” last year, I have little to no contact with him. I told him that I will remain his friend no-matter what, but I quickly realized that his only conversation was about Life Leadership… 🙁
And now here the positive side of my story. 🙂
I now know that nothing happens without a reason. Mostly the bad things.
My wife and I were introduced to Life Leadership at a time when we had no more fun in our life and at our jobs. We were searching for something else !
One thing I can say without hesitation is that LIFE products changed our thinking about life and work. THE INFORMATION WAS GREAT – THEIR MLM TYPE OF BUSINESS WAS HORRIBLE… for me. Don’t get this wrong, many people love the multi-level marketing concept, I have learned that I hate it ! To me it’s a out of date door-to-door selling technique.
Although I loved most of the things I bought those 6 years, I put an insane amount of money in those often overpriced products. But what’s done is done and I’ve learn my lesson and nobody on earth could lure me in any MLM scheme now.
What I’ve learned the most of several books is that the concept of “purpose” is over rated. What is a life purpose ? The recipe is simple… Find a thing you love to do, something you do without even been paid for, and then find a way to create a business around that activity. Find at least one mentor and a good environment. But mostly, build something you love and you have control on. That’s what I’m doing now, and thanks to LIFE for awaking me on that.
TheRightMixx says
Tony Robbins has been teaching these concepts for years. One Tony Robbins seminar is not only life changing… but he’s not promoting cult like behaviors. More like a mama bird sending you out of the nest, to be free to build whatever makes you happy. Of course I receive emails to go to other events, but I don’t have that strange pressure that my life will fail if I don’t go. I got all the push I needed from Tony in that first event (plus walking across fire) and I get the rest of the push I need for success from my family and from God in my personal prayers.
Glad you learned a good lesson. Good luck to you in your endeavors!

Thanks for sharing your post about your frustrations. I have had similar issues with so many types of companies trying to get refunded for something I changed my mind about. BUT I want to give people the benefit of the doubt and suppose Life Leadership generally has an efficient and customer friendly return policy. Let’s just suppose that. Your post only taught me that if I sign up… I may possibly be unlucky to run into hassle of being reimbursed.
I learned SO MUCH MORE from the Life Leadership zombies who comments. It was amazing to see how Life Leadership really empowered them into becoming aggravated and hateful blind followers of a product I was investigating. I have a friend who has been trying to get me to her house and I decided to go to the internet to find out about this ‘too-good-to-be-true’ program. I have no doubt that Life Leadership changes lives… but I’m guessing it’s not the direction most humans want to go. I don’t want to become a desperate salesman who is foaming at the mouth to accuse and attack a woman who is basically sharing her experience. I mean.. who would want to pay hundreds of dollars and hours to become THAT?
Again, thanks for creating the perfect arena to read just how Life Leadership has changed lives. THIS is NOT for my family and you helped me miss a bullet. Despite the constant hungry pressure from my friend I will decline her advances and retain my sovereignty as a sane and compassionate person.
Best,
The Right Mixx

In my humble opinion, all MLM are more or less “cult like” type of communities. They all want to create a sens of belonging and a mindset that let you think you are in the best place at the right time… In my 6 years experience, I’ve been told every year that this would be THE YEAR where Life Leadership will launch and reach the stars… People will one day knock on our door to join… We’ll reach one million people… COME ON !!!
What bugs me the most is when they convinced members that there is no other business or job who can provide financial and time freedom, and I’ve been caught in this for a while !
Finally, I was so tired of seeing everyone as “prospects”. Every new person I meet was a cold contact… I could have a great connection with someone I meet, great conversation and all, could have been some great new friends, but as soon as I brought the subject of “the business”, the great vibe just went away.
I personally think that the problem is the MLM concept. The door-to-door vacuum salesman era is long gone !
Debora says
Life Leadership is about building relationships first. They tell us that over and over again. I guess you didn’t get the memo! You have a lengthy conversation with someone new, typically they are going to ask what you do for a living. I don’t find it a problem to tell them that we help people get out of debt, show them how to make more money and owe less taxes. If they are interested to know more, then you go on from there. If they don’t show an interest, you don’t insist on cramming it down their throat. You want people in your business that are interested, not folks you will have to drag along!
Ermal says
People;
I just returned from a life “open mtg”. It lasted 5 hours! I only stayed for 4. I had enough.
I went at the urging of an acquaintance that I felt an obligation to attend. When she saw me at the hotel lobby where it was being hosted at she got all excited. We went to the reception room it was being held at. She pulled out $40 and they gave her back $5. I asked what that was for. She told me it costs to come to this mtg. I ask her why she had to pay to have me attend. I told her if these people are making the amount of $ they claim they are making why should she have to pay for them to host a mtg and pay for the speakers travel expenses? This is a big red flag. She makes very little $ and yet she is paying for the lifestyle of her upline?!?!
The mtg was supposed to start at 5pm. It finally started at 5:16 pm. One of the main speakers I was introduced to was London. She and her husband were the keynote speakers. When it was her turn she talked about the expectations Go buy a suit for the men Go buy a dress for the women. Attend your mtgs show up early and start on time.Later I approached her on a one on one and voiced my impression to her. I asked her why she did not start the mtg on time. She stated it was the culture of the people in charge. It was their decision. I told her if you are the leader you should have told Ian, He was the organizer of the mtg, It is time to start NOW! She again stated it was their culture and she is trying to help them. Then be the leader . She blamed Ian, the Dockstaders, the A/V guys and everyone else for not starting on time but never herself. What a big hypocrite. She is the leader the example. I told her all you are doing is allowing people to dictate what they want. business open at a certain time and so should her business.I asked her if the convention , that they want me to buy a ticket for, would start on time she said yes. I doubt it
Debora says
What you attended was not a Conference, it was a Seminar. The speakers at these events are guest from other areas, so they are not THE LEADER of that event, only the speakers. Again another complaint based on lack of knowledge. The person that paid for you to attend this event did so because they are excited about how this organization has changed their life and thinks enough of you to invite you to do he same. The facilities where these events are held are not free, the Life Leadership family shares in the cost of these events so we can have these events and offer them to others. The folks running these events do so on a volunteer bases. Most facilities are not going to volunteer their facilities and these events are usually to large to hold in someones house. If you wanted to attend something free, then you should have first attended an Open meeting to see if this community was for you.
STEVE LEIFHEIT says
Here is something I recently published on LinkedIn. What I say about the industry I work in totally applies to the Network Marketing world also. Annie I would suggest that you do not characterize the short staffing in the customer service department as trying to rip off people. This is a relatively new company that runs lean on overhead. In the end I think they went above and beyond to satisfy your request. Thank you and here is my article;
I have worked in a sales position within an industry that experiences a 70% failure rate in the first year among new reps. So let me ask how you analyze that; is it a reflection on the industry? Or on the individuals? Here is what I have concluded. The Industrial Revolution was a good thing…but it was also a bad thing for Americans. Here’s why I say that. Before that, almost everyone was self employed. Now it may have been like Charles Ingalls of “Little House on the Prairie”, a small farm with a few animals. But in that world no one had to tell Charles to go out and plant the crop when the field was ready. He knew how to work and how to create work. But once people started to shift to “employee” status they lost the art of creating work. Now they just had to show up and work was created for them. They developed the perspective that if their body showed up for work then they were being productive. Now allow me to tell you how this applies to sales people.
I work in a 100% commission, pay for performance sales position. But this was my first experience with this compensation method. All other sales positions I have had came with two things that I did not get in my present position; a book of business and a base salary. The transition to this new culture was painful to say the least. And, unlike the 70%, I stuck it out and did not quit. After 5 years I have come to have what I would almost call an epiphany, as to just why 70% fail in their first year. And I attribute a lot of it to the base salary compensation plan most sales people have…and the Industrial Revolution!
When you have a salary, you can show up at less than optimal performance and have the cushion of that salary to fall back on. Maybe you stayed up too late last night. Or maybe you had two too many beers with your friends. Either way, because of the salary cushion you can be sub-optimal and not feel it in the pocketbook. Of course your employer feels it, but you don’t. You think your a rock star. But take a way the safety net of that salary and you could find yourself a bit less cocky. That salary creates a considerable fudge factor that fills in the gaps.
So how about the Industrial Revolution? Let’s go back to Charles Ingalls. Who tells him to go out and plant that field? No one. He knows if he doesn’t then it will dramatically impact his family. You see he knows “how to create” work. And so did most Americans back then. But when people started transitioning from even the simple farmer to an employee, they became “domesticated” so to speak. They lost the art of fending for themselves. They no longer had to create work. Their body showed up to a place called a job and work was created for them. By watching others, and myself, going to a straight commission pay structure causes you to have to become “undomesticated” and find that wild drive once again. The one our great great grandparents had before the Industrial Revolution. Because if your don’t you will experience this quote from Zig Ziglar, “Timid Salesmen have skinny kids”!
Don’t get me wrong. There are salaried sales people that have learned how to be hungry. But I would have to say in my experience the benefit of that salary has given most the luxury of not “having to”. So why do 70% fail in my industry? One that truly gives you the ability to earn what you decide you are worth as opposed to what someone else says you are worth. The answer is simply they don’t want to change, grow and become more. Because with the salary they really don’t have to. It’s a great industry full of opportunities. The 70% is a reflection on the individuals and not the industry.
Debora says
Just like anything in life, if you want success at something, you have to work it. If you don’t work it, what is the benefit of bad mouthing a company for your lack of interest? Life Leadership and the Financial Fitness Program have a lot more success stories than this 1 complaint, who calls herself dweeb. Many, many people in this system are now job optional and those folks are out changing the world and fulfilling their purpose. The Life on Life initiatives through All Grace Outreach are phenomenal. $1 of every subscription goes to helping others all around the world.
My guess is the person that wrote this complaint has no idea how easy our system is now and probably did not submerge themselves into the community attending opens, seminars and major conferences. Over 10, 000 people all over the world attend the conferences, not to shabby for a company that dweeb claims has it all wrong. God blesses this community to do good all over the world and is a huge organization of like minded people. My guess is you didn’t see the vision and who ever signed you up had not yet submerged them selves in the community. I love my Leadership family, they help me be a better me with the encouragement and mentoring. I have to agree, probably wasn’t for “dweeb” but she admitted that she didn’t give it a chance, since she immediately asked for her money back. Not really fair to anyone to make such an assessment on such little knowledge. Especially since what we all do affects so many people. Dweeb may have just kept someone from becoming Financially Free so they could have the time and money to go out and live their purpose in life.

I’ve had a neighbor pressuring me to sign up with this ‘program’. It’s definitely a scam – although, you can make some money – but SOLELY by scamming people into it. There’s no need for this thing and I’m going to see what can be done to abolish this ‘program’ and will work my hardest to do so. Don’t ever pay money to make money, that’s where the scam begins.
Kyle Hallett says
You are missing the entire purpose of the community Life Leadership is building. What you purchase is a simply somthing to help you excel and help not only yourself, but everyone else you want to bring along your journey of success.
The books shouldn’t be the focus of your friends sales pitch, which lead you to believe “pyramid scheme”. I believe in this plan and I want my friends and family to be a part of it with me.
Life Leadership is not a scam and will will prove that to you very soon.
I’m sorry you see your experience as a loss.
If you realize you bailed on a revolutionary opportunity, feel free to contact me and I can help you on the path you should have been on from the begining. ?

JK says
Originally became a bit involved with TEAM, a few months before they dissolved their relationship with Quixtar. Personally, I only purchased a few of the products to try them out. Did not foresee a future market as the products were somewhat overpriced for the marketplace, and figured the marketplace would have competitive products at reduced costs by major international producers (as they follow trends of consumers and duplicate, often at lower quality but better marketing, reducing the market share for competitors). My main interest was the high quality information that was easily accessible.
About two years ago, starting my career in sales, at a “legitimate” sales job (you know, a store that pays you 10-20% commission while spending 60 or more hours a week working), ran into someone who passed me some CD’s. I immediately recognized the content a became involved within a couple of weeks. Mainly used the Audios for my own training and development. The content is great as I often hear our corporate trainer that flown over a thousand miles and is paid over $10,000 a week for training say many of the same things as are on the Life Audio Marketing System. My legitimate company’s sales have more than doubled with with this independent trainer. I often hear things repeated while listening to Life’s audios that remind me what the Trainer had taught in one of his sessions.
As far as some of the comments I have read about some other people’s experiences with the contacts in the Life Organization, I have not had those negative experiences. I have always been told there would be much work to build a business in Life, I have never been pressured to purchase products in Life. At times I have things going on in my personal life and was not pressured nor harassed, and knew that I would not have much mentoring if I was not putting the effort in myself. Though I have heard at some regions there have been some people who have engaged in high pressure sales. I present the products from my personal experiences and present how they can do the same to improve other’s lives, which I believe they can from personal experience.
From my experience in retails sales, there are two main types of salespeople. Those who wish to make a quick buck (and those salespeople quickly expose themselves by selling through pressure and fear tactics), and those who truly care about the result of the sale improving the life of their guest. I have never had any issue with Life Leadership demanding I purchase one of their products. I have chose to purchase a number of their products based on their value in my life. From reading some of the previous comments, I see there are a number of people involved in Life that do not really use the products as intended. They do produce some real quality products that have helped many individuals. Just as Toyota produces great cars or Mary Kay produces some great cosmetics, unfortunately some bad salespeople turn us off to these products that could enrich our lives.

Biggest scam ever, these clowns have changed the company name over and over again. The founder use to help run AMWAY! He tried to sue them and then lost because it was his scam design and now the template is being used for Life Leadership. My brother has fallen for one scam after another. Amway, quickstar and now Life Leadership and now some crappy app. Now there is an app, you can sign people up easy when they see you saving on day to day purchases, now building the pyramid will be so easy and you will be rich and successfully retired in 2-3 years. These people prey on people who are down on their luck or are deeply religious and blinded by their faith.
Mish says
It’s the Life Super App. Do an intervention on your brother if possible. I watch this via a friends husband who is brainwashed. He follows all the “Team oh I mean Life”
My friend doesn’t participate in the selling but follows her husbands plan to the T. He’s isolated her and Orrin’s wife has even suggested that she should support her husband more and he’d make a higher level. Here’s the problem with that. She’s the breadwinner in the house. He’s in charge of all “their money”. Just tonight he tried to sell one of our friends in the “Super App”- crested by Orrin. Friggin $30 monthly for the app plus extra for higher tiers.
It promises you can use credits for cruises etc.. Then they want you to post a 5min video on this app and some how allow anyone in the app to view it and of course sell the app to family and friends. We have been at this with my friend since it was Orrin selling Monavie. I bought Mona Vie from her for him and it made me sick. I finally read up this scam and kindly told her to never ever ask me to talk about this crap with me or we wouldn’t be friends. “Friends don’t try to sell friends things. Friends give and share”.
Anyway this blog is full if the Orrin followers. I k is for a fact they are taught to shut down anything on the web that is negative. To the original post. You can change your mind anytime you want and if you enter a contract with anyone including writing a check you have 3 business days to change your mind. Screw the idiots spouting bullying tactics. For the record Amazon returns allow you check “no longer wanted” and they don’t charge you a return shipping fee”.

It is interesting to me that in your own recollection of the story you lied to your friends and wrote a bad check. But that’s just my opinion.

Life Leadership is a pyramid scheme ._
rachsux says
Hello! I realize I am about 4 years late but I just wanted to briefly share my story. My parents joined Life Leadership back in ’09 when they were still MonaVie/Team. I was 13. I watched them struggle for 9 years with this business and they NEVER succeeded. I think they maxed out at a profit of $400-500/mo. They spent thousands of dollars and went into an insane amount of debt trying to get ahead, but it was all for nothing. This MLM, like any other MLM, brainwashes you like a cult and basically alienates you from anyone you were ever close to. My parents tried to shove the teachings of this company down my throat. I will say, I did learn a lot about money and charisma, but you can learn any of that on your own for free on the internet.
Glen Woloshyn says
First things first. I have been in direct marketing in some capacity for 30 years in multiple markets in every city in North America. I have only worked in and taught straight commission employment. To work for yourself you are only paid that way. I have found all reviews on MLM systems do not originate from people like me nor does any review online require any form of credential to produce. This is why i feel the need to weigh in. If you went to school at a post secondary level you were trained to think and serve someone else in their operation. Even if viable information was available for competition in business today the very nature of it’s being sold to every student that signs up for the course in North America would dilute the information to the point of being worthless in most fields What the educational system teaches is compliance. Being compliant does not produce well in competition or innovation so in sales, the backbone of all industries, this is a hurdle not a strength. Products that require you to change your habits and address your shortcomings are valuable but require effort for reward. When people fail at providing that effort they do not except responsibility they create excuses. There will never be any shortage of people creating those so no matter how good a system is people will feel the need to account for their inadequacy with something other than accountability. Like an online review. Success in not easy. Supply in demand is everything and people who are good at direct marketing and paid their dues to become that way are rare. If you are rare you go everywhere,If you are everywhere you go nowhere. To those who do not listen to others and believe in themselves you will be successful at anything. It just takes time and hard work.

LIFE Leadership products showed me how to be a better boss &leader. Their personal development products saved my marriage & made me a better father. Their Sales Training helped me become a top sales person (ethically). Their personal Finance products made me & my family financially stable. Yes, I obviously needed work in all of these areas but I was just doing what my family, friends, & school had taught me. I didn’t know I could do WAY better!
Their products have consolidated the best information & wisdom from reputable sources into essentially one place. LIFE Leadership products are a Godsend! I wish you had a better experience & I wish you would have given their information a chance. The gift is usually underneath the wrapping. I hope you still have that friend & your relationship is more honest. Enjoy your day!

Hi, I came by to take a look at what people are currently saying about Life Leadership, and wow, I did not expect this article to garner so many, many comments and replies!
I have NO issue with Life Leadership programme and wish the business prosperity and success.
DMT says
I was a leader in the organization for four years. Had there not been a split in our business with our unethical up-line throwing a tantrum and leaving to start another MLM (Bonvera), we would still be in the business. We left because we did not want to deal with having to start over with building our down-line team and work with a “leader” who was horrible. The organization has way more good people than not in it. I usually don’t comment on these posts, but I was completely flabbergasted by some of the things you stated that I know is completely inaccurate about LIFE Leadership. First, your friend is the one who should’ve initiate the cancellation of your membership, but even with that, you got your money back AND free product. It was noble of you to give it to your friend, but the organization was giving you an olive branch to check it out for yourself by letting you keep the products. Personally, I think the products are top notch IF you are willing to do the work in order to change your life. We still use the products and read the books and they have helped tremendously. The Financial Fitness Pack and program had allowed us to become debt free and begin to build wealth and financial security for our family. When the pandemic came, we lacked for NOTHING and were able to pay off debt, our cars and save money because we were prepared. Our credit scores went up hundreds of points and we are close to the 800 club. I can’t say enough good things about the products and the organization itself. I encourage people to do their due diligence and look at everything before slamming an organization. All MLM’s are cut differently. Some are more shadier than others – but this one isn’t.
