Are you celebrating Star Wars Day on May 4th? Or hosting a Star Wars party? Either way, Princess Leia cupcakes are so easy anyone can make them!
After you make these, how about making some Wampa Granola Bars? They are a little more advanced, but so much fun.
My kids are flipping out over these cupcakes! Of course with the new Star Wars movie released, they are even more in love with them.
I could make some silly Star Wars jokes here….”The force is with these treats.” Or “the light side has cupcakes.”
But I won’t.
Supplies
- Box cake mix or your favorite homemade cake recipe
- White Buttercream Frosting
- Red food coloring
- Oreo Cookies
- Black Wilton Frosting
- Piping Bag With Tips
How To Make Star Wars Cupcakes
Anyone with even basic decorating skills can make them. The cookies as her hair really set them apart and make you go “Oh yeah, I know who that is!”
It’s the hair.
Here’s the recipe and directions! Happy Baking!
First, add vanilla frosting to the cupcakes. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Second, use a fine-tipped piping bag or black food gel pen to add the hair and two dots for the eyes.
Third, use a fine tip to add a small pink smile.
Finally, add a small dab of vanilla frosting to the cookie and attach one to each side of Leia’s head.
That’s it! Your cupcakes are ready to share!
How To Store Frosted Leia Cupcakes

Princess Leia Cupcakes
These easy Star Wars Princess Leia cupcakes are perfect for beginners.
Ingredients
- Box cake mix or your favorite homemade cake recipe
- White Buttercream Frosting
- Red food coloring
- Oreo Cookies
- Black Wilton Frosting
Instructions
- Mix up your cake mix as directed or you can also use your favorite homemade cake recipe. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). Line your cupcake tin with cupcakes holders and set aside.
- Spoon the cake batter into the cupcake liners (fill about ½ way up) and bake for about 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely, and then frost.
- Generously frost each cupcake with a thin layer of white icing.
- Using a thin writing tip (I used a #4) take your black icing, start one side of the hair first, from the center down. (You will want to create a middle part.
- Add the other side of the hair and then add the eyes.
- To make the mouth use a small amount of your white frosting and add one drop of red food coloring to make pink. You can also use these heart candies to make a cute simple mouth if you have any on hand.
- For the hair buns, use a dab of icing to stick Oreos to the sides of the cupcake liner. To get rid of the ‘white line’ from the creamy center of the Oreo simply run a thin layer of black frosting down the center of each Oreo.
Notes
Make sure the cupcakes are completely cooled before adding the white frosting.
