Are you suffering with your sleep? Chances are, you’re not alone. There are plenty of people out there who are sacrificing sleep whether that be due to a busy lifestyle or a health problem that causes the person to lose out on precious sleeping hours.
Any adult should be getting at least several hours of sleep per night. Ideally, the perfect number is around eight to nine hours of sleep. If that is nowhere near what you’re getting, things need to change.
With that being said, here are five reasons why you might be getting a bad night’s sleep.
Using your electronics late at night
If you’re using electronics in bed at night, then this could be part of the problem. The reason for this is that blue light is something that’ll keep your brain wired and when you’re using your mobile phone or on an electronic device late at night, it could disrupt your ability to fall asleep.
Sound like you? A lot of people will tend to use their phones as they wind down for bedtime but if you’re prone to sleep difficulty in any manner, then using your electronics late at night should stop.
Try to read a book or listen to some calming music before you go to bed and you’ll feel a lot better as you drift off to sleep.
Not having the right environment to relax in
The right environment is important to have when it comes to your bedroom and bedtime space. Make sure you’ve got the right duvet tog and a comfy pillow or two to rest your head on. If you’re someone who wakes up at the sound of floorboards creaking, then get some earplugs to block out any sound.
The same goes for those who wake up when light comes into the room. Wear an eye mask or invest in blackout blinds.
Underlying health problems
Depending on your current health, you may want to see a doctor or health professional to understand whether any underlying health problems could be causing the issue. There’s a link between teeth and sleep apnea, so it’s worth seeking orthodontic treatments if this sounds like something you may have.
There are also mental problems and other health conditions that can contribute to getting a bad night’s sleep too.
Your mind is in overdrive
For some people, trouble sleeping can often come from your brain actively running late into the night. When it comes to your mind, you want to put it to rest but sometimes you may find yourself thinking about things, planning ideas in your head for upcoming events. That could be causing sleep problems, so make sure to journal your thoughts to get them all out.
Eating and drinking late
Finally, eating and drinking late can cause problems with your sleep. Ideally, you don’t want to really consume much after dinner as this can cause digestive problems that may likely keep you awake at night.
A lack of sleep has negative health benefits as well as causing damage to other parts of your body internally and externally. So make the changes now.
