This is fun! I am joining my friends on a few other blogs and seeing what we all sound like! Here is my video – it was my first time recording straight to YouTube, so it is kinda funny as I try to figure it out 🙂
And you should join us! Basically, you just read out loud the words listed below my video. Then, you answer the questions as well. It is very fun to hear what words sound like from other people in other parts of the country and to hear what they call different things. One blogger calls a shopping cart a buggy, I think it’s cute and fun and will try and make that what we call it here in Kansas!
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped
body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry
groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
Now you! If you did one I want to go and hear how you say these things, this is really tons of fun for me. I love hearing all the different ways to say these words. So record your short video and put your link here:
Angie K says
I’m from Chicagoland and I call it coke too! Sometimes I call it pop but when I am at a restaurant I will say coke and it confuses the waitress when they just have Pepsi…even though that is what I want!
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
I’m not the only one that calls it that!! YAY!! oh that made me smile 🙂
Emily @ Baby Dickey says
Ha, love it! You definitely have an accent! 😉
Brandy says
“coke” and “y’all” in Kansas??? Really? I grew up in Nebraska, so I was expecting you to answer everything the way that I would. I thought “y’all” was just a Texas thing.
Sheila says
I did mine lol
Jhona O says
Very fun! It was my first:) I’m such a nerd.
Cat Davis says
Girl, you about gave me a stroke … Coke and Pepsi are NEVER interchangeable words … never …. never ever. 🙂
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
I know, I am so strange! I despise Coke, will never drink it! But when I am thirsty I hear myself saying, “I want a coke, where is the pepsi?” I don’t get it.
Thanks for linking up Cat!
Little BGCG says
You totally just said SEAR-UP!!!! I think I rubbed off on you!
Little BGCG says
Also I feel your pain on the glasses glare!
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
oh these glasses STINK for vlogging with. I hate it lol
But it was late and I was not about to go put my contacts in at midnight…..so whatcha gonna do right?
Sarah J says
Even though I’m from Kansas too, I say some things a little different than you. I say “spittin’ image;” of course, I drop the “g” off a lot of words- huntin’, fishin’, fixin’. I’ve been with my husband from SW KS too long! I also pronounce syrup, “sur-up” and it’s a “q-pon.”
A carbonated beverage is a pop. I’m a Pepsi drinker too, so it’s never coke! 🙂
I had 10 grandparents and great grandparents when I was born, so they tried to give some distinct names. I have/ had: Mamaw and Papaw, Gram and Papa, GG and Grandma and Grandpa (actually great grandparents). My mom is Mimi and Tate calls my father-in-law Pa.
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
Everyone around here drops the “g”s from their words. I want to do another one of these in a couple weeks cause there are lots of other words that drive me crazy when I hear them pronounced funny…..like Creek. it is CREEK, not Crick. Crick is something you get in your neck.
And it is KI-OH-Tee, not KI-OAT (coyote). But I can see how you can pronounce it either way. There are other words and I can’t wait to do this again. This is fun
I am a huge pepsi drinker, HATE coke. But I call Pepsi coke. I am a nerd. LOL
Sarah J says
supposeDly, not supposeBly
is it envelope or on-velope?
My biggest pet peeve is actually a grammatical error. “I seen you,” is NOT correct! I have been trying to change that in my husband for the last 11 years. Everyone in SW KS says it that way. It was soooo hard for me to live there and not correct everyone! 😉
It is totally a creek! How about the AR-Kansas River or the Arkan-saw River? LOL
Kelly says
I thought for sure you were going to say pop being from Kansas. My inlaws are from Missouri and it’s pop – even beer they jokingly call barley pop.
I don’t know if I want to join in or not – I hate the way I sound being recorded. As a southern girl by birth, I think the answer to the rain falling when the sun is shining is liquid sunshine. I definitely think buggy is a southern thing too.
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
Everyone around me says pop that’s for sure! It is either pop or coke. I don’t hear anyone say soda. I have never heard beer called barley pop, that’s awesome.
Thank you for stopping by Kelly, even if you don’t link up! I still think you should, I am sure you sound just fine, even cute since you are from Texas!
Liquid sunshine? Never heard that one before. I like that better than sunshower.
Billie R says
I’m orginally from Georgia, in Iowa for many years though, and everything there is a Coke, no matter what it actually is. Feel free to stop by, I’ve yet to try vlogging yet, but this looks fun.
donna says
you are a dweeb and l love my dweeb very much
Roxanne D. says
This is really cool! I’m inspired to give it a try. 🙂 Maybe I can do this tonight if I can figure it out. LOL! And, yes, I’m one of those people that calls a cart a buggy. hehe!
Mommy Boots says
I will watch yours when I get home from work today. Also, I put my link in the linky and totally didn’t see your link to my blog above. *facepalm* I’m so glad it’s Friday.
Jacqueline Renner says
You’re totally right, I don’t think you sound like you’re from Kansas. You do have a sweet voice though and we call just about everything the same thing. 🙂
Katie says
You’re so cute!
kristin says
I loved watching these. I first saw Cat’s post then came over here.
I call it all soda. 🙂
Emilie @ Baby Loving Mama says
Thanks for sharing this! I couldn’t help but take part too!
Emily @ Baby Dickey says
btw – thanks for the linky! I just added you to my list of other bloggers that made a vlog 😉
Karen says
You sound so sweet! and no, you really don’t have an accent. Just wait til you hear me! I am asked all the time “Where are you from?” and I know it is because of how I sound.
Nichol says
I had to join in so much fun!
Jennifer @ Mom Spotted says
I think a Coke is a coke everywhere. Don’t quote me on that though lol
I played too and linked up!
Cinella says
This was pretty awesome…. I linked up!
CJR @ The Mommy Blog
Toni @ Carrigan's Joy says
I think you have a great dialect, one in which would fit well in Tennessee. 🙂
Thanks for stoppin’ by Carrigan’s Joy, and yes, that is still my Christmas table cloth…I like to break a few norms at times, which is my way of saying I’m lazy. 🙂
Enjoy your weekend and I’ll send ya some Spring weather!
Joanna @ Baby Gator's Den says
So much fun! I linked up 🙂
Rachel says
I’m gonna try to vlog this today — I think this is such a fun little “meme.”
Annette says
This is so fun!
I know so many people who call all soda “Coke”…it’s not that uncommon here in Utah.
I just posted my video…I’m off to go visit everyone!

Gosh, who knew listening to myself would be so painful? LOL Need to practice it more. Or maybe not. I definitely need a camera and should NOT use the Droid! What bad quality. Oh well, I did it and it’s posted.
Tiff says
This is so fun! I love that you call all soda/pop coke. I would always think you just wanted a coke if you said that. 🙂 Thanks for the fun post, joined in.
Jenn says
I just added mine from west Texas! 🙂
Connie says
I’ve loved hearing everyone’s voice. So much fun!
Lorie Shewbridge says
It took me forever to get this done and uploaded after watching everyones (I’m so new at vlogging), but I finally got it done because I had SO much fun watching these.
This was such a great idea… LOVED IT!!!
You are too adorable, no accent.
Kristen says
Ooooh I might do this later…is it too late?
Kristen says
OK so I just realized that I’m waaaay late in this lol-you should do it again (with different words or something)…I’d feel like a goober doing it now lol.
Kelly says
It’s a week late, but I finally did it!
Jen-Eighty MPH Mom says
I am so happy you did this again – it’s a blast! I will try to think of some words for you. My mom was from Mississippi, so I’m sure I can come up with a few 🙂
Thanks Annie!
Jenny says
Aww, this would have been fun. Are you going to have another one soon?
Tryna says
This was so much fun! I’m a little late joining in, but I’m glad I found you!
