It’s time to change things up! Let’s make a moist and AMAZING BBQ Meatloaf on the grill! Yup! Fire up the grill, it’s time to make a childhood favorite!

Almost everyone has had meatloaf from the oven. I personally grew up on my mom’s meatloaf and loved it. But until I married Will, I had never tried cooking meatloaf on the grill. Honestly, grilled meatloaf turns out AMAZING!
The Most Amazing BBQ Meatloaf You’ll Ever Make On the Grill
Grilling meatloaf basically takes the dinner game into a whole other level. It’s so tender, with the perfect amount of crisp around the edges. We usually make 2 different kinds. One with a ketchup glaze and another with a BBQ sauce glaze.

What Meat Do You Use In BBQ Meatloaf?
You can stick to the basic ground beef. But if you add a pound of ground pork to the mix, it adds an entirely new flavor profile. I love using spicy pork sausage. Every single bite has incredible flavor.
How To Grill Meatloaf
You can scroll down to the bottom for the complete grilled meatloaf recipe. If you want to see pictures of each step, here you go!

First, you need to get a really large mixing bowl. If you have ever made meatloaf before, this step is exactly the same. Just put all the ingredients in the bowl and get ready to mix them up!

Next, mix everything up! And yup, using your hands really is the most effective way to get everything all mixed. You can try to use a spoon, but the meat is just easier to break up and smoosh when you use your fingers. Squish it. Smash it. This is the fun part.

After all the ingredients are all mixed up, lay out two sheets of foil and form your loaves on each one. This recipe makes 2 meatloaves. Then, decide what kind of glaze you want on top. We did one of each – one ketchup and one BBQ sauce.
Then, you need to heat your grill to 350 degrees F or Medium.

Now you are ready to cook them! We like to wrap them up in another layer of tin foil and make packets. I’ve read other recipes that say you can leave the top layer of foil off and cook them on just one layer of foil. This will give you an even crispier meatloaf.
You should grill the meatloaf over indirect heat for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it registers at least 160 F on an instant-read thermometer. 160 F is the minimum safe temperature for ground meat. The minimum safe temperature for ground poultry is 165 F.
One thing we didn’t do was slice the meatloaf and grill the slices individually. I saw this idea on Weber’s website and thought I’d pass it along in case you wanted to try it. It looks really delicious!

After the meat is fully cooked, you are ready to eat! Just slice and serve! The most difficult part of this recipe is waiting for it to finish cooking. The smells that will fill your deck will make you so hungry. Just a warning!
What to Serve with Grilled BBQ Meatloaf
We love serving my Bacon Lovers Potato Salad with the grilled meatloaf. And every August we grill up some fresh sweet corn from the garden. You could also serve up some sliced watermelon or fruit salad.
What about a drink pairing? You can always play it safe with a red wine or light beer but if you are looking to branch out, we recommend trying one of the smoked cocktail recipes from the team at Aged & Charred.
What Type of Grill is Best for Meatloaf?
Honestly, we love our propane grill. Weber makes the best grills on the market. But I know that using coals can give grilled foods a unique taste that propane grills can’t do.
