Francesca Battistelli – Own It
Are you living life free from fear, from insecurity, and from feeling like you are never good enough? You should. The album “Own It” by Grammy-Award winning Christian-music artist Francesca Battistelli is full of lyrics that inspire you to grab the life you deserve.
I listened to the entire album from start to finish. I really enjoy listening to albums completely before judging them, listening to the art the musician created.
This album has it all. There are up-tempo pop songs that Francesca is known for, mixed in with soaring ballads. If you love to sing or dance, or have an affinity for honest lyrics, this album has it all.

Let The Light In – The Best Song For Fighting Insecurities
The song starts out with a line almost every girl can relate to:
Last night I layed awake in bed
Can’t shake the lies up in my head
I was scrolling
Instead of sleepin’
And she paints a story of feeling not good enough, not measuring up to the perfect portraits that she sees on her phone. How many girls relate to this very thing? And the song honestly admits that she knows it’s a highlight real, that it isn’t real life. And yet, it still makes her feel inadequate.
So many of us have been there, haven’t we?
That’s when the message of the song really hits home.
This is a song to remind me
We’ve all got some broken we’re hiding
None of us are ok
We all fall, we all break
This is a song to remind me
To let the light in.
This song reminds me of all the times I sat in my own dark times, feeling alone. I felt like no one understood. Sometimes, we need reminded that others are broken too. We have all been there. Darkness tries to creep into everyone’s lives. We have to choose to “let the light in.”
What “the light” is, can be different for everyone. Is it the love of your spouse? God’s light and kindness? Or maybe the light of hope, that it will get better?
That’s what I love about art and music. It can speak directly to someone in a different way than it speaks to someone else.
The Breakup Song – A Powerful Song For Freedom From Fear
The Breakup Song is by far the most popular song on her album. I can understand why, I love it too! It’s a powerful anthem about freedom from fear. This song speaks to purging your life from insecurities and anything keeping you prisoner from peace and happiness.
This song is incredibly cathartic to sing at the top of your lungs!
You can see Francesca’s passion in the video. Watch the video – you’ll see the message of breaking up with fear – for good – in it. ‘
Francesca Battistelli Co-Wrote 9 Out of 10 Songs on “Own It”
Every single song on “Own It” is uplifting and encouraging. In fact, Francesca said she co-wrote 9 out of the 10 songs. She had one idea of the album, but after starting the writing process, it all turned out differently.
“I thought I had a handle on what this album was going to be, but my husband and I prayed before every songwriting session, and God gave me a completely different set of songs than I was expecting,” Battistelli exclaims. “These songs are so empowering. What they represent to me is my desire to own my identity in Christ, to kick fear out of my life, to own the present moment and not live in the past or even the future. I don’t want to walk in half of what God has for me. I want to walk in all of it. I want to own it! And I want that for everyone who listens too.”
I agree with what she said. These songs encourage the listener to understand their identities in Christ. That they are loved as they are. Don’t live in the past, but cherish the present.
