We all have different sleeping habits, and we all have different experiences with sleeping and being able to get a good night’s rest on a regular basis. But when it comes down to it, you have to think about whether or not your sleeping habits are healthy for you.
You need to be sure that what you’re doing before bed, and when you wake up in the morning, are activities good for your body and restful for your brain.
But that can be hard to do in a world that’s oversaturated with distractions and various tips and tricks that might not be so helpful. So let’s try and sort the wheat from the chaff here – how healthy are your sleeping habits? Feel free to read on to try and examine your bedtime routine.
What Time Do You Go to Bed?
Going to bed at the right time is key for making sure you’ve got some healthy sleeping habits about you, seeing as too late a bedtime seriously hampers you ability to get the often recommended 7 to 8 hours in. So you need to be sure you’re cutting back on the late hours and early mornings, and getting into bed at a suitable time.
Of course, your bedtime is going to depend on what you have to do the next day, and how rested you need to be for it. If you’ve got an early shift, you’ve got to get to bed at 6 or 7pm. If you’ve got a later shift, there’s more leeway, and you might leave it until after midnight. But even if you do this, make sure you do it on a pattern – for all early shifts: 7pm, and for all late shifts: midnight.
What Do You Sleep On?
The bed you sleep in, and the mattress you sleep on, affects the quality of your sleep habits more than you even realise. You might be subconsciously associating laying down on your rough or too firm mattress as something you don’t want to do, which keeps you a little more awake and little more reluctant to head to bed at the right hour.
So let’s make this a bit easier on you, and make sure you’ve got a dream mattress to lull you into sleep when the night hits.
