What Are H’ordeuvres?
The food you enjoy before the main course is presented. That’s the best definition of h’ordeuvres I can think of. The dictionary defines it as any kind of savory foods served as an appetizer.
I can tell you, I have had some amazing h’ordeuvres that were such a treat I didn’t even want my meal.
How do you spell H’ordeuvres?
This is a very tricky one! It sounds like horderves. It is actually spelled with an apostrophe. H’ordeuvres. My spell checker doesn’t like it but I know this spelling is correct.
What’s The Difference Between H’ordeuvres & Appetizer?
Honestly, there isn’t a whole lot of difference, but just a slight one. H’ordeuvres are usually one-bite foods served separately from a meal. Think of the trays of bruschetta bites served by wait staff at fancy engagements.
Appetizers are usually larger platters served to a table while everyone is sitting down before a meal.
My Favorite H’ordeuvres
I love anything with crispy breading and bacon. I found a site that lets you order boxes of frozen h’ordeuvers. This lets you save so much time and money and it looks like you made them yourself!
Pastry Wrapped Asparagus
Asparagus wrapped in delicate pastry, steamed to perfection! The tartness of the vegetable and the delicate patty all melt in your mouth.
Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
I love bacon wrapped anything! But bacon wrapped shrimp is especially mouth-watering. These also have bold and spicy cheese inside.
Serve them together for an array of flavors that compliment each other on the plate. From the light asparagus to the bold and spicy cheese in the bacon-wrapped shrimp, this sampler platter is a crowd pleaser.
Lobster Cobbler
By far my favorite item on the platter is the lobster cobbler. It melts in your mouth in crumbles. The cheese and peas were a pleasant surprise and the bread was the perfect balance of crumbly and moist.
This platter can be purchased from Tender Filet. It is delivered to your door in dry ice – all you have to do is pop them in the oven! Mouth watering appetizers in minutes!
