How Are You Raising A Reader?
I remember the first time I learned to read. I never wanted to stop. I began consuming novels in 2nd grade, and fell into over dramatic love with English literature in high school.
As I held my first baby in my arms, I imagined the books we would read together and how my heart would melt as she felt the same love I did.
And you know what is even more exciting than watching Lizzie read books? It is watching Lizzie read books to her little friend Ainsly.
It’s as if the tiny spark I helped kindle has a life of its own, and is inspiring even more children to love to read!
They Each Had Their Own Favorite Book
By far the book that all 3 of my kids loved the most was “If You’re A Robot and You Know It” by David A. Carter. Not only is it a pop-up book with interactive flaps and tags they can pull to move the robot, but it’s a song they can sing!
They tried to read it to Ainsly but she had her own favorite book – “Where’s Walrus, And Penguin?” by Stephen Savage. She would turn every large, illustrated page and find the Walrus. Lizzie sat and made up stories since that book doesn’t have words.
Toddler Reading Fun – The Story Stars Here Site
If you have a toddler Ainsly’s age, you have to check out the Scholastic The Story Starts Here Site. It is full of books made just for toddlers, free printable activity pages, and videos to go with the books. This way you can find a book that you think your toddler will just adore!

One of our grands lives in our home. She just turned 4 & loves her books. If I had a larger home I would have a small room devoted to a reading & fun quiet space for my grands. TY for the chance!

I love this! My two oldest are avid readers, but my youngest just is not interested :/

My 5 year old daughter is at that magical stage of just starting to read on her own. I love watching and listening to her. The excitement about reading is contagious, I think. My Mom was a 5th grade teacher and passed her love of books to me and I sincerely hope it continues to my children. People who aren’t avid readers make me sad…they are missing out on SO much!

I have had a thirst for reading my whole life and it has never been quenched. Scholastic is a name that I recognize and associate with my childhood reading. There is nothing like holding a book in my hand

Reading is so important to aid a child’s development and prepare them for the real world. I feel that without reading children would be at a disadvantage.

Great post! I don’t have kids yet, but I try to read to kids, and encourage their reading as much as possible!

Reading is a skill and a hobby every parent wishes their kids would have an interest in. It’s nice to bring them to bookstores and have them search for a book that they like, that would spark their interest in reading!

My 6 year old LOVES to read. He’s reading at a 4th/5th grade level right now. And I can’t take any credit for his love of reading, honestly, because I was/am terrible at reading to him. With my 8 month old I’m doing much better. 🙂 My son now loves reading to his little sister too. It’s previous. Sibling love is amazing!

I read to my kids a lot when they were younger. It is so important to start a love for reading when they are small.

Don’t enter me in your giveaway because I don’t have any little ones any longer – all of my nieces and nephews are older now. I do believe that reading is the greatest gift we can give to children.

This is really helpful to me! Me and my girlfriend has loved each other for a long time and we are still hesitant in engaging because of this very problem! We will have to try to work a bit harder in order to effectively manage our future homes! Thank you for such a helpful post!
