Scenic Blackwater Falls in West Virginia
Nestled in the Allegheny Mountains of Tucker County, West Virginia, is Blackwater Falls State Park. If you love nature and hiking, you simply must make this one of your stops! Go visit eastern West Virginia and take a walk to see the Blackwater Falls – you will be so glad you did.
There are hiking trails in Blackwater Falls State Park, but I actually enjoyed their boardwalk. There are a little more than 200 steps down from the parking area to the waterfall. It’s about 1/4 mile walk, which isn’t bad, just lots of stairs.
The boardwalk also has a few platforms, each giving you a new and fantastic view of the falls.
The waterfall itself is phenomenal! It is a 62-foot fall down the rocks. It was named Blackwater Falls after the amber color of the water. The black water is a result of tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles.
The park is located just outside of Davis, West Virginia. Davis is a tiny little town of less than 1,000 people. In fact, the only cell phone signals that really work here is AT&T. I have Verizon and the signal was so bad, I couldn’t use my data. (I know, first world problems…)

Romantic Hike in West Virginia
I cannot recommend Blackwater Falls State park more. In fact, next time, I want to hike some of the trails. There’s a reason this is one of the most photographed places in West Virginia. Will and I had a lovely time, walking hand in hand, enjoying the sounds of water. It’s peaceful and completely serene.
Camping In Blackwater Falls
I’m lucky enough to live within driving distance. If you don’t, you still have to plan a visit. You can easily find a hotel in one of the nearby towns. Or, you can also find cabins or camping spots in the Blackwater Falls State Park.
