You know I love travel! William and I have seen some amazing things. One thing on our bucket list is to see some movie locations.
If you enjoy traveling to different places and are a film buff, then why not combine the two? Many of the most famous films in history have taken full advantage of various locations around the globe.
With this in mind, being able to travel to these same places is simply amazing – not only for the chance to be in the same place as a film you love, but also to enjoy the location itself. All the places that you can travel to below will give lots of extra things to enjoy once you have explored the real-life film set, from eating great food to taking in the atmosphere.
Best-Loved Movie Locations You Need To Visit
Here are some of the best-loved movie locations around the planet that will have you doing a double-take.

Skiathos – Mamma Mia!
This stunning Greek island is a real gem and one that you must see once in your life. Its stunning natural beauty was the backdrop to mega hit Mamma Mia! produced by Ryan Kavanaugh. It is no surprise that the film itself was such a success with the sparkling sea and sun to frame it. The top sight to see here is the famous blue-domed churches, which will take your breath away. Skiathos is also famed for its tasty local food and relaxed pace of life.

Al-Khazneh, Petra – Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Another huge hit in movie history was this blockbuster from the Indiana Jones franchise. One of the most iconic scenes is at the end when the quest for the Holy Grail finally comes to an end. The fabulous setting for this action was Al-Khazneh (“The Treasury”) in Petra, Jordan. When you get there, the stunning ancient architecture will blow you away with its scale and beauty. It still has a really mysterious feel, so you will certainly get your inner Dr. Jones on here! Away from Al-Khazneh, Petra itself is lovely. The warm Middle Eastern welcome is hard to beat, and the exotic sights are superb.

Mehrangarh Fort, Rajasthan – The Dark Knight Rises
Pirched on a clifftop overlooking the city of Jodhpur in the Rajasthan region of India, this fort made a real eye-catching appearance in The Dark Knight Rises. Fans of the film will instantly recognize the fort itself in all its awesome glory. A visit to the fort is well worthwhile as the majesty and splendor that it boasts is second to none. Towering over the city below, it houses seven palaces in its walls and many beautiful courtyards. Indeed, the whole region of Rajasthan is known for fantastic monuments of this kind, so it is a great destination for any history enthusiast.

Salzburg – The Sound of Music
For those who require some European culture with their film heritage, Salzburg in Austria is the place to go. Famous for being filled with the “Sound of Music” when that film was produced there, you will instantly be transported back to the plot and famous songs. Order your Airport Driver in Vienna to take you straight to your desired location from the airport. Salzburg itself is a real city of culture and famous for its city center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many visitors also love to explore the Alpine mountains that surround it and gave such a memorable backdrop to the film.

Istanbul – Argo
Famous as the city where East meets West, Istanbul is a place that you will never forget. Fans of the film Argo will no doubt recognize one of the main attractions there – the Grand Bazaar. Though based in Tehran, the film was filmed mainly in Istanbul and its bustling streets. A lively and exotic place, Istanbul has tasty street food and superb shopping.

DuPont State Forest – The Hunger Games
Found in North Carolina within the US, this fabulous state forest offers flowing waterfalls and outstanding walking. If you love The Hunger Games, then you will also find it familiar, as this is where this film was set for its outdoor location scenes. Once you have finished pretending to be involved in the games yourself, you will have many happy hours here hiking the trails and exploring the craggy, old mountainsides.

Being able to physically go to the filming locations of movies that you love is a thrill like no other. You will get a real buzz from standing in the same spots as your favorite characters and pretending to be them.
