Does this actually work? Soon as we build a basement addition, we will have a place downstairs for a television, couch and another playroom. My thoughts are we will keep most of the toys down stairs and keep my upstairs living room a whole lot cleaner.
Please tell me I am not dreaming.
I sure would love for this to be true!
For now, their toys are everywhere. This is mainly because we live all the time up here. Perhaps after we complete building our addition I can move my computer downstairs and then on rainy days I can work while the kids play with their toys down stairs, all together. In theory, this will keep my glass coffee tables cleaner since we will be down there all the time instead of up here.
But let’s look at reality: I will start out all excited, the toys will stay down for like a day. Then they will bring them back up, I will be too tired to take them all downstairs and I will have the same problem, just a bigger space to clean.
Not if I can help it!
And then I can get somebody to build something like this lovely home style furniture end table:
This will go downstairs since it is so kid friendly. It looks so easy to clean and the space beneath will be perfect for holding toys. I am a huge fan of fabric covered storage bins like this one:
Maybe in a different print, but I sure love how cute they look in the bottom of the end table.
So what do you think? When the basement is done do you think I’ll be able to keep the upstairs even more clean? Wish me luck!

I def. think it’s do-able to keep it all downstairs. I actually have this same dream, however, my Hubs claims his area is downstairs so even though we have a great deal of toys down there, we still have plenty up here to mess up a place.
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll make it happen!!

Thanks for your optimism Toni! We will see how it goes. I’ll definitely try, but won’t be upset if it doesn’t pan out.

I hope it works! I am hoping to do the same thing next fall when we finish our basement. I was visiting a friend with this set up and it was working for her. She had a giant metal shelf from target with plastic bins on it for the toys. Each plastic box had a specific toy in it so it was easy for the kids to pick up. Let us know how it goes!

You are finishing a basement too? Well we are starting from super scratch – like there is a huge hole behind my house LOL!!
I really like the metal shelf idea. I’ll have to give that a go, but knowing Josh since he makes cabinets for a living I bet I’ll have a wood shelf.

You are dreaming. I don’t think there is anything you can do to keep the toys from spreading through the house. I think fingerprints magically appear on our glass coffee tables because right after I am done cleaning them, I turn around and they are back!

Michelle, I think you are so right. I am totally dreaming! It won’t happen and I am preparing myself for that reality. I am just going to love this phase of my life.
I have those magical fingerprints too! And right after I clean the toy room the kids think “Wow! Look, a new place to dump a basket out on!”
