Following up with another delicious recipe from the 1950s! I discovered this Recipes on Parade cookbook at a garage sale this past summer. It was put together in the 1950s by military wives and has hundreds of recipes. Today we try one that is perfect for a fall dinner – Sauerkraut, apples and pork chops! Yum!
Enjoy! Somebody said this was a delicious meal. His only complaint was that the chops didn’t have enough flavor. I followed the directions word for word from the cookbook, but I think next time I will smother the chops or even better, use my crock pot! I really love how the crock pot brings the flavors of the ingredients into the meat.
You can also check out the Kansas Pork Association for more delicious recipes and pork coupons!
Yum! I love how simple this recipe is. I might have to try it in the crock pot next week.
I would love to hear how you would adapt for the crockpot. I am slowly becoming a crockpot addict.
Kerri, I am a crockpot addict too LOL 🙂
I think I would just put everything in the crockpot instead of the oven and cook on low for 4-6 hours. With the pork being browned first it should be cooked in that time, but keep an eye on it.
And I might even throw the apples and onions in the skillet with the pork to give them a little sear (as well as to give them a bit more flavor and caramelize the sugars a bit).
Looks delicious! It reminds me of something my grandma used to make.
That looks great. I always hated sauerkraut as a kid, but as an adult, I’ve found that it’s all in how it’s prepared. I’ve had some great recipes using sauerkraut! I’ll have to keep this one in mind. Thanks!
Oh yum!! That looks so delish!
I’ve never tried sauerkraut before but it does look yummy!
