New baby. New marriage. New job. Life changes, it is constantly brining new starts. As we grow and experience these fresh chapters, we have two choices: go with the flow or meticulously plan. Which kind of person are you?
I keep flip-flopping from planner to free-spirit. I will plan the heck out of my life, then get so boxed in by my plans that I throw away the agenda and just have free-lazy days. Then those days take over and I scream for normalcy – the datebook comes out and the schedules are laid.
I’m really great at saving money, but actually creating the budget and planning for our future? That involves a talent I struggle to improve.
With every new change in my life, I became more responsible and more of a planner. I still have lazy days = can’t survive without them – but I have to know where my money is going and to make sure we will have enough for future issues. Of course I can always use Genworth’s super handy budget calculator too. I just can’t do math with pen and paper – ask the bank teller. It is sad.
And the closer I get to 30, the more I realize I need to focus on retirement savings. I learned a lot from Dave Ramsey about financial stewardship and how to handle money wisely. Now it is time to really put it into practice! Genworth has amazing resource articles like the one I linked to above. I am constantly learning so much about my money and our future!
When did you start to become serious about how to handle your money? Do you have any resources you would like to suggest?

I am getting to that point – starting to really buckle down and plan. I would love to do the Dave Ramsey program, but I just don’t seem to have the time right now. 😐
