I was jamming in my SUV to the best songs of the 90s the other day. (Gotta love the Songza app!) Then Will Smith started rapping in my earbuds. I turned it up and sang every word I could remember.
Na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Gettin Jiggy Wit It
That song just makes me feel so happy. I remember dancing to it in my bedroom, my computer speakers turned up loud. Trying to do my best hip hop moves and rapping my blond heart out.
So when I turn on Pandora or Songza and play song after song from the 90s and 2000s, I dance. I sing. I feel those happy, hopeful, optimistic emotions wash over me and I let myself smile freely. I never want to lose my youth, I don’t ever want to be so overburdened by responsibilities and stress that I forget to imagine, dream and dance. Nobody can take this essence from me except me. I have to let it fall in the cracks to let it fall asleep and I refuse to do that.
Music takes me back. Hanson, Britney Spears, Christina Auguilera, Will Smith, N’SYNC and dc Talk – those are the artists that awaken my memories. So when I work out, I have to turn on my 90s music station. I hope no one watches me as I’m on the treadmill, I start to mouth the words to “Bye Bye Bye” and I’m sure I look ridiculous. But I don’t care!
Reading takes me back too. Every night I read “A Wrinkle in Time” to my first grade daughter. She begins to fall asleep and I keep reading and reading. I get wrapped up in the words, the feelings of the characters and the adventure. I remember devouring book after book as a young girl, desperate to experience drama without actually having to live it. I want to re-read more books I loved as a girl – Island of the Blue Dolphins will be next!
Oh and I found some sweet gummy adult vitamins! Have you heard of Smartypants vitamins? I hadn’t until they sent me a sample bottle. Now I am hooked. I’ve tried other gummy vitamins, but these are different. They are sugar coated. They taste dangerously like candy! But their texture is way better than candy cause they don’t stick to my teeth. Their label says I can take 6 candies a day, so I take two gummies, three times a day. And I love every single dose.
Now I can take vitamins without having to pull a “Baby Mama” (watch the scene below. It kills me every time!)
WIN IT!
One Mama Dweeb reader will win a $25 Amazon.com gift card and a full size bottle of SmartyPants Adult gummy vitamins!
I received the bottle of vitamins from SmartyPants but I am sponsoring the gift card myself as I think you all just totally ROCK and I want you to treat yourselves to some radically awesome 90s tunes from Amazon.com.
