1. Aloe and Cucumber Hydrating Mask
Cucumber is great for soothing itching and irritation. Did you know that cucumber is 96% water? It hydrates the skin and cools burning sensations from chapped skin. It works even more effectively when paired with aloe.
Aloe has strong anti-inflammatory properties that calm skin irritations and soothe inflammation. It is also rich in vitamins and antioxidants that promote damaged skin to recover and regenerate. Aleo is excellent for healing cracked, chapped or scaly skin.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Take 3-4 slices of cucumber (together with the peel) and blend it.
- Add 2 tbsp of fresh aloe gel if you have a plant, otherwise, the store-bought gel works fine too.
- Mix the two and apply the mix to the face.
- Leave the mask on for 20 minutes and rinse with water.
2. Banana, Oatmeal and Honey Exfoliating Mask
Dry skin is especially annoying when it peels and flakes, shedding bits of skin that give you an incessant itch that no amount of scratching seems to suffice. This exfoliating mask will not only help slough off the dead skin cells but also activate the skin cells to rejuvenate. It’ll also deep cleanse your pores to get rid of deep blackheads and prevent acne.
Banana is rich in vitamin A that restores the skin’s moisture barrier and helps heal dry skin. Oatmeal, on the other hand, has unique anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that calm dry skin and boost its immunity. It also balances the skin’s pH to prevent harmful bacterial invasions and protect the skin.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Take ½ a cup of oatmeal and grind it to make a fine powder.
- Mash ½ a ripe banana and mix in 1tbsp honey and the oatmeal powder to make a smooth paste.
- Apply it on the face and massage gently in circular motions for effective exfoliation.
- Leave it on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing.
3. Strawberry and Yogurt Skin Brightening Mask
Strawberry contains vitamin E that moisturizes the skin and soothes itching. Besides, it contains powerful antioxidants such as anthocyanins and polyphenols. They neutralize free radicals that cause skin damage to brighten the skin.
Yoghurt works as an excellent moisturizing cleanser due to its rich content of alpha hydroxy acids and lactic acid. It exfoliates dull skin and tightens pores to give the skin a radiant shine with an even tone.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Take 3 ripe strawberries and blend them.
- Mix in 2 tbsp yogurt and 1 tsp of honey to achieve a smooth consistency.
- Apply this paste on the skin, leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse.
4. Milk and Honey Moisturizing Cleansing Mask
The combination of milk and honey is an age-old one that works like magic to relieve dry skin troubles. In fact, it is often used in many commercial moisturizing cleansers and soaps for dry skin. But when the ingredients are so simple and readily available, why wouldn’t you rather opt for a DIY mask at home!
Milk has lactic acid that acts as a mild exfoliant to remove dead skin cells and improve the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Like yoghurt, it also cleanses the skin while soothing it at the same time.
Honey is well-known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It protects the skin from bacterial infections and also soothes inflamed skin. It is also a strong humectant with moisture preserving powers to make the skin smooth and soft.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Simply mix 1 tbsp honey in 1 tbsp raw milk and apply this mix onto your face.
- Massage well and leave it on for 20 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water.
5. Avocado and Olive Oil Nourishing Mask
Avocado contains Biotin, a compound that forms an essential part of the vitamin B complex that heals and rebuilds skin. It is also rich in natural fatty acids that penetrate deep into the skin to nourish and hydrate it. Also, the vitamins C and E in avocado contain antioxidants that fight fine lines and wrinkles that develop from dry skin.
Olive oil supplements the nourishing properties of avocado with vitamins E and K. It is also a natural humectant that attracts moisture and keeps it sealed within the skin.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Take ½ a ripe avocado and scoop out its flesh.
- Add 2 tbsp extra virgin oil and beat with a fork to achieve a creamy consistency.
- Apply this mix on the face and leave it on for 15 minutes.
- Wash off with warm water and enjoy the smoothness and softness of the skin.
6. Coconut Oil and Shea Butter Creamy Soothing Mask
This combination works for extremely dry skin, even for conditions like eczema where the skin becomes scaly.
Coconut oil traps the water molecules and keeps them sealed within the skin. It also helps heal cracks and strengthens the moisture barrier function of the skin.
Shea butter is an excellent emollient that fills in the cracks of dry skin and makes it smooth and soft. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that prevent itching and irritation.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Mix 1 tbsp coconut oil with 1 tbsp shea butter evenly.
- Apply the mix on the face to form a thin layer.
- Leave it on for 15 minutes and wipe out the oil mix gently with a warm washcloth.
- This will cleanse and nourish the skin at the same time.
- Rinse with warm water.
7. Papaya and Honey Dullness-Combating Mask
Papaya is rich in potassium, an element that hydrates dry skin and removes dullness from it. It also contains the enzyme papain that decreases inflammation and clears up clogged pores. Together with honey, it not only soothes dry skin but also gets rid of dullness and gives the skin a warm, dewy glow.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Take 2 slices of a ripe papaya and use a fork to mash it well.
- Add 1 tbsp of honey to make a paste.
- Apply this mix on the face and let it soak the goodness for about 20-25 minutes before rinsing.
