A fun & healthy recipe for children!
Surely no other mother on the planet has my problem – a child that prefers to play than eat? Repeated instruction to “sit and eat” and “eat at least 3 bites of your veggies” are ignored.
Well, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! (As the old saying goes)
Getting my kids to eat chicken nuggets is not even a struggle. I look for nuggets that are 100% all natural ingredients like Tyson chicken nuggets are. It is their veggies they don’t eat. But I created a super fun meal that my kids really dug their veggies into.
Meet captain nuggey and his band of scalleywags! They sail the sour cream seas on the SS Potato. Armed with carrot cannons and pepper-swords, they are a rough bunch you don’t want to mess with!
The only way to beat this surly bunch is to chomp off their heads!
My 2 year old loved it!
Ingredients and prep are so easy, you can even involve your little helpers to join in the fun.
All you need is:
• a double baked potato
• Tyson Chicken nuggets
• baby carrots
• sour cream
• blue food coloring
• a chip
• yellow & red bell peppers.
While the potatoes are baking in the oven, your little helper can make the ocean. Just stir in the desired amount of blue – make it as dark or light as you want.
The, you just cut some triangle shapes of cheese for the ship’s flag and slice some peppers for the sail and swords. I have to admit, Lizzie and I were snacking while cooking!
Your little helper will be able to join you again! Just put the nuggets on a sheet! I have a countertop convection oven, so I was able to cook the nuggets at the same time as the potatoes baked in the oven.
When the potatoes are baked, you can scoop out the insides, mash it up with milk and begin assembling your work of art!
The sour cream ocean is perfect for dipping the carrot cannons and pepper-swords in. And the soft & creamy mashed potatoes, made from one of my favorite slow carb recipes, are so fun for dipping the nuggets in before biting them in half.
Talk about a fun and creative way to encourage your children to eat their veggies and protein! Feel free to use other veggies – be creative. And involve your kids in the creation of this ship, they will love it!
One lucky MamaDweeb reader will win a $50 VISA Gift card so you can make this at home!

Disclosure: I was given a gift card to purchase supplies for a meal involving Tyson Chicken Nuggets. I was also compensated for my time sharing it with you. The fun I had making this pirate ship? Priceless!
